The Search Continues
Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007I don’t know if I mentioned this or not but I’ve been looking for a new place to move my office/home recording studio. Where I’m at now, I’m not able to make drum noise (even though the outside noise from Sunset Blvd. is much louder than any drum set could make).
So far, this is turning out to be not so easy to find…at least for the money I have to spend. My guess is that in just about any other part of the country, spending $800 to $1000 would easily get me what I’m looking for…but here? Well….it’s gonna take some luck to find. Rent here is pretty outrageous.
I could probably find something in downtown LA for my budget but I’m trying to avoid fighting traffic getting back and fourth. So I’m looking in the valley…Studio City, Burbank, Van Nays, N. Hollywood, etc..
I talked to a fellow who specializes in finding properties for musicians and he’s been looking for me. He mentioned he might have a place in an industrial area in the Valley a few weeks back and that he would send me photos of the place once he went to look at it. The price sounded too good to be true (only $650).
He emailed me the photos today … Yikes! The place looked more like it would be a better place to be cooking up Crystal Meth and selling Crack rather than a place to be rehearsing. DOWNRIGHT SCARY LOOKING. I’ve got a pretty good imagination and don’t mind fixing a place up to make it what I want but I think the biggest drawback was…there was no AC and also the place didn’t look like a safe enough place to be storing equipment. And so, the search continues. If anyone knows of something in the above cities, feel free to send me an email.
