Since 2004, I’ve been doing these little blogs entitled Goodbye 2004, 2005 at the end of each year, and now it’s time for Goodbye 2006. I’d say GB 2005 was by far the most raunchiest. I ended the 2005 post by saying:

• If the saying "what doesn’t kill you will make you stronger" has any truth to it, I should be bulletproof for 2006.

Well, I’m not sure I was quite "bulletproof" but I was a little more guarded to all the bullshit and kept the mentality of "it is, what it is"….so what was 2006 like for me? Well…here are some thoughts on my 2006. [THIS IS THE LONGEST POST I’VE EVER DONE, SO IF YOU DON’T LIKE TO READ…JUST SCROLL DOWN TO THE "FOAM" VIDEO].

Lotza people DIED in 2006…Last year started off with Shelly Winters and Wilson Picket and ended on President Ford and James Brown (and of course Saddam). I keep a DEATH Category on my journal but I’ve slowed down on reporting every single death…it’s a little morbid, and yet last year there were just too many to keep up with.

On the 1st of February 2006, I met the gal who is now my manager [Waves "Hello" to Candice]. I popped in the set of a TV show called Starving Actors(a show that I’m supposed to have some of my music in but I’m not really sure what’s going on with the show). It’s really nice to have a manager…not only is it a big help, but people take you more seriously.

On Feb 20, 2006, I got a callback for the CBS show Rockstar: Super Nova…That was exciting. I got the call before anyone knew who the band was to be and by time I actually did the audition, it was pretty obvious I wasn’t a good fit for Tommy Lee and Crew Still fun though

Meanwhile, started doing the score to a movie titled "Reel Guerrillas" which starred Joel Moore. This was my 1st time scoring an entire film. It was work but FUN work and now I have my 1st IMDB Credit..YAY LOL

Hmm…let’s see…some time in April of 2006 I taped and put together a music video for friend Tony B. That was fun and painless. The video didn’t come out quite like I envisioned but I liked the dark Meet the Beatles lighting and feel to it.

Also in April I De-Friended someone. I’ve only done this maybe 2 times in my entire life but this one is probably the one I’m most bitter about. Basically, I was never paid for work I did on writing and producing and then wasn’t given proper credit on the project. I thought about taking this person to court, but I’ve never taken anyone to court…it’s really not something I want to do so I backed down. To this day, I find out this gal is reading every journal entry I write… probably hoping I say something about her. So since I’m pretty sure she’s reading this, let me take a moment and say: Ms. Diva-Wanna-Be, go fuck yourself and please stop reading my journal you pathetic bitch!

Let’s see…speaking of Evil things that can kill you… last year, I cheated and started smoking again after quitting for 2 years. It’s so amazing that 1 cigarette can get me back to my old addiction of a pack a day (even after 2 years!). I’ve since quit AGAIN and I now think of myself as a Smoker who just doesn’t Smoke. Boy I still want one though…there isn’t a day where I don’t think of having one

In July 2006 I was contacted by NBC’s "StarTomorrow"…You guys remember this…it was the online TV Show that made me beg everyone for online votes Being part of this show was truly a BIZARRE EXPERIENCE. I was in Chicago when they were shooting their Casting Episode so I wasn’t even sure I was going to be on the show…when I returned from my trip they said "come on in and shoot for it" so I had about 2 weeks to get the band and everything else together for the 4 songs we taped. I wasn’t even sure if I was on the show until my videos started appearing…very strange!

My 1st round, I beat out The Egg People and I remember being very excited about that 1st win. I’m now told that the Egg People lead singer is one the Cover-Band Vocalists on "Dancing With The Stars"…The rest of the rounds were so exhausting and filled with online and personal drama. I’m super glad that I made it all the way to the Final 5 though. To this day, I keep getting emails and comments from people who voted for me saying things like "we’re sorry you didn’t win" ….and since I signed something at the start of the show saying I wouldn’t talk about the contracts and stuff like that…my reply is usually something like "If you ONLY knew… I won by NOT winning" ….I can’t really say any more about this show but it DID bring some exposure and I made some friends by being on it and it DID open some other doors I wouldn’t have changed a thing….besides, it was pretty sweet to have my mug shot on the front page of NBC.com! That Ruled!

Music Placement… I’m supposed to have some of my songs in the movie "Anderson’s Cross" but maybe this is something that would fall into the year 2007 since it’s not released yet?…Oddly enough it was shot in 2004 Also last year, I got a song placed into the Fox Show BONES [air date 11/15/2006 "Aliens in a Spaceship"] I’m told there’s a chance I have another one placed in 2007-Fingers crossed!

One of the COOLEST things that happened to me in 2006 was signing an Endorsement Deal with YAMAHA! I’m very happy about that…More things I was honored and happy about?

I was nominated at the 16th Annual LA Music Awards for Male Rock Singer Songwriter of the Year and I WON that award! Also, another CD I co-produced and wrote songs for won R&B Album of the Year. More Awards? I got nominated for the JPF Awards for Male Singer Songwriter and placed 5th- Not quite as cool as taking home the LA Music Award but still pretty cool.

Off the wall stuff of 2006… I now have a Text Mailing List if you text the word bobgentry to the number 66937. This has turned out to be fun. I’m also hooked up through this Eventful.com site [Take a moment and Demand Me on your hometown damn it! ]

Q: The craziest Off The Wall Moment of 2006?

A: When my half-brother who doesn’t know I’m his brother, voted for me on StarTomorrow and left a few comments there…it’s going to be hard to top that.

In November of 2006, I did a show at the Key Club in Hollywood. This was SO much fun. Here’s a NEW VIDEO of the song "FOAM" with clips taken from this show. I’m scheduled to be doing another show Late January at the Key Club opening up for the band Great White. This event is supposed to be Hosted by Pamela Anderson. More to come on that when I know more. but back to 2006…

My last funny and yet cool thing that happened to me in 2006 was being placed in the Beautiful People Section of LA’s The Place online Magazine. I’m still getting teased for this

Ok…so that was most of my 2006. I’d say it was a pretty GREAT year for music stuff!

Oh, one last thing I could slide in here is that some of my videos have been picked to be part of this Cable TV On Demand thing. I don’t know all the details on this or when it’ll be up but I think soon… Comcast users will soon be able to view my videos on their TV sets after downloading them to their digital cable. More on this when I know. [this is a teaser]

Ok…let me close this post off…I blabbered on way too much already but there was quite a bit of stuff to include in my Year in Review…I’m pretty sure I left some stuff out too.

Let me end by saying….2006 was a GREAT YEAR for me and I will be very sad to see it go.

Well, I hope everyone had nice holidays. I was being sort of a Scrooge this year…"sort of" …well..ok, there was no "sort of’s" about it…I pretty much stole all the gifts and burned down everyone’s Christmas Trees [KIDDING]

It was a nice holiday for me. But…uh…let me just say THANK GAWD THAT’S OVER! Now, on to griping about New Years [HA!]

I’m looking forward to writing my "Goodbye 2006" Blog…For the last few years I’ve been doing my own little Year in Review. For the last couple years my "Goodbye 2005" and "Goodbye 2004" have been a little ..uh…whiney…but this year, I’m going to be VERY sorry to say Goodbye to 2006…it was a great year for me. I just hope I don’t miss anything in my own personal year in review.

I’m such a geek…I just saw a trailer online to a movie and it gave me chills. It’s the adaptation of the cartoon "Transformers"… I know what you’re thinking…but check out the trailer. The cartoon was a little cheesy…but hey…the toys were pretty sweet

As I expected…just about all my emails and phone calls after blogging about being in LA’s The Place all started with "Oh Beautiful One…" and then it was either followed with things like "It’s so nice to be graced with your presence…" or "what do I owe the privilege and why would you want to be talk with us ugly people?"…JUST as I expected…The teasing has begun. I’m OK with it. I should save the voicemails and put them on my next CD.

Actually, I was having a very depressing day yesterday and the article helped to get my mind off other things. I was still feeling down, but having something else to focus on and be silly about was nice. Like many others out there, this time of year is not always the greatest for me, but what got me in the slump was a conversation I had with my mother. She had lunch with my father yesterday and told me that he’s not doing well MENTALLY. Apparently, they were sitting at a table in a restaurant and my dad got up to use the restroom and when he came out of the bathroom…he got lost and didn’t know where he was. My mom said he’s forgetful and repeating himself and it’s a little freaky.

When I last saw my dad over a year ago, I DO remember him repeating himself but not to the point where I was alarmed. I thought perhaps it was just that he’s getting older and/or I make him nervous since we have a very strained relationship as it is. I never really spend more than 40 minutes with him a year so It’s hard for me to tell what’s "normal" with him and what’s not but my mother on the other hand, knows what is and isn’t freaky for him. I’m pretty sure getting lost and not knowing where you are is not normal for anyone though. :[

Anyway…so that’s sort of what was going on. Exciting huh!

Off subject, I found this picture taken not too long ago and it made me smile. I look like a horse on a Merry-Go-Round….that’s pretty much my life as it is. I just hope I’m not doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over.

Last time I had some comments about some of the other photos looking posed…So when my Reality Show called Being Bob Gentry airs on BRAVO this will show that I am indeed spontaneous

Ok…I just got placed in "LA’s The Place" ….in the "Beautiful People" section. [grin]

I’m going to give 2 different reactions to this.

Reaction #1:

Wow…this is neat…I’m humble and grateful…and flattered that I made it in ANY sort of Online Magazine saying I’m "Beautiful"….how very thankful I am. Part of me is wondering "How the hell did I get in THAT section?"…Thanks to the fine people at LA’s The Place for putting up my mug shot and including me…not to mention giving me a link back with a promo-plug! Thanks SO Much! [My friends are going to tease me for this "Beautiful" thing and I will never hear the end of it …..so let me write Reaction #2 in which will be the sort of stuff they might be ribbing me for]

Reaction #2:

It’s about damn time that someone thought I was Beautiful! From now on, my blog is only for the very prettiest of people to read. I’m going to keep a velvet rope outside my blog with a bouncer who will only let the very hippest people read my super swanky journal entries about how very cool I am. Let me tell you JUST how cool I AM but only after I password-protect my entries! Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get back to looking pretty as well as getting back to Xmas Shopping with Paris Hilton. PLEASE KNOW THAT REACTION #2 IS ME TRYING TO BE FUNNY.

Now in all seriousness… I’m very flattered and thankful…YAY!

Well, this shot will probably end up being the last photo of me taken in the year 2006. I’ve said this before, but I’m SO bad at picking photos of myself to use for promo stuff. It’s actually a little frustrating to see a picture of yourself that you think is "not half bad" only to have it shot down by someone else. It’s even weirder when it’s a photo that you think is bad and someone else loves it.

I suppose we all have different ideas of what we think we look like.

I know it might seem that because I post photos of myself, I’m some sort of ego-photo-monster fishing for compliments but the reality is, I’m pretty sensitive and with each photo I post… I’m nervous as to what people think. Of course, It’s nice to be liked. We all want that…some more than others. If only LIFE could be so bad to only have to worry about what photo to pick. LOL

Just know, if you think I look bad in a photo, I look twice as bad in person I’m lucky if I get 1 or 2 "OK" looking shots out of a 100. So, by seeing this photo above, there’s about 98 shots from the same shoot in which I look ultra-goofy.

You would think that doing MUSIC that it shouldn’t matter what someone looks like…only what they sound like…. but things like a photo for a CD Cover is a MAJOR decision. So maybe my next CD Cover should have a bunch of nudity on it? (just as long as it’s not me being the nude one)

By the way…this all goes for songs written as well. A song I write and think is "a hit" …and in which a ton of thought and time went into might not catch the majority’s ear …while a campy little 3 chord song that takes me 3 minutes to complete will get all the attention. I’ll not complain too much though…I’ll just be happy that a song is liked AT ALL

Um…I’m not sure how long I’ll keep this live cam going. It sort of makes me feel all freaky and itchy to know there are strange people watching and listening in to me typing away. So why do it? Cause I’m a FREAK

7:05pm : Cam Off ..hope i didn’t bore you guys to death

Yesterday’s blog was a little "Manic"…and what a better way to end my day than:

…being in a friend’s car …getting smashed into by another car…and the other car FLEEING THE SCENE. Ain’t nothing like a little Hit and Run to top the day off right?…CRAZY!

I know, I gave away the punch line…now here’s the story.

I went to have dinner at about 8pm with my friend Val who drives drove this sweet 50 thousand dollar Lexus Hybrid SUV[I’m not really someone who is "into cars" but this Lexus is was fancy-shmancy]. I was the passenger while we were stopped at a crosswalk. Suddenly, I feel a hit from behind and hear a loud CRUNCH. A Minivan slammed into the back of the Lexus with us in it.

Val gets out of the car to get the lady’s insurance info and do all the regular stuff that you’re supposed to do when getting smashed into. The lady was DENYING that she did anything. It was FREAKY. Val continued to ask her for her info and the lady tries to cut around the Lexus…I’m now out of the car at this point so I stand in front of the lady’s vehicle and snap a picture of her plate with my cell phone just in case she was going to run off(I REALLY did not think she was going to run off). So, Val starts to call the police because this lady is not cooperating. Luckily, there just happened to be cop car that arrived on the scene with two officers in it.

One officer walked up to me as I was standing in front of her car and I think he asked if everyone was OK(or something like that)…I say "Officer, this lady is trying to leave the scene" and then I figured since the police were there, I’d done my duty and didn’t have to be a human roadblock any longer….so I move out of the way. The lady looks at the cops…and then TAKES OFF! Pretty BALLSY!

The cops asked what just happened…they seemed just as stunned as I was…they got back in their car and gave chase but she got away. They came back about 20 minutes later and told us to head to the Police Department and file a report. It was a good thing I snapped a picture of her license plate but I wish I would have taken more photos of her and the other gal she had in the car. Maybe I should have stayed in front of her car longer? Who knows…she might have run me over!

It was just a trippy situation…the bright side…no one was hurt. It was just SO weird and almost slow-motion. My guess is…she did not have Insurance..or she was in the country illegally…or maybe this late-40’s looking mother was actually a crack dealer with 4 warrants out for her arrest. God only knows. I just could never picture myself smashing into another car and then taking off.
