I just returned from an audition for a commercial today. They were looking for Hockey Players to be featured with NHL players and look like part of their team. The posting said they wanted guys who are at least 6′1 and around 200lbs and so…I gave it a shot. That’s pretty much all I knew about it until I got there and was told it was a NIKE commercial.

There were a few REALLY good skaters there but for the most part 70% couldn’t even skate backwards (some guys were even falling over).

It started out with about 50 guys there….and after a little while, they told everyone to go home except 10 of us (They kept me for more drills).

I seriously doubt I’ll get the spot but who knows…they kept me the full two hours and shot more videos and took Polaroid’s of me(none nude though)

Anyway, it was quite fun but I’m not holding my breath…the way I look at it is, "Hey, I got to go skate". And …it makes for good blogging maybe If by some odd chance I do get the commercial, I’ll be sure to blog about it….but if I don’t, I’ll not mention it again.

In other Hockey news, we had a game last night and won 9 to 3. I scored 2 goals and had 1 assist. Our team was in the zone it seemed. At one point in the game, I was hooked by some bastard in the balls and without thinking ….(in my mind) he suddenly became a TREE and my stick became an AXE. CHOP! CHOP! CHOP! I was put in the penalty box and holding my balls the whole time. [So much for those 20 children]  I’m fine today, but a little sore.

Wednesday, I’m going to help out with the shooting of a TV pilot…Word is, they’re using a song of mine. I’ll not say much about the show until I get and "ok" to do so …but that too sounds like fun. More soon!

"My Perfect Partner" [I’ve never really thought too much about this until just now] So, in no particular order:

1. Loves dogs.
2. Loves movies, music.
3. Loves gadgets and computer stuff.
4. A Partner in Crime…someone to be look out while I rob the bank.
5. Someone to Balance Me(if that makes sense)…what I mean is…I think it’s important to have someone who fills in the holes that I have[get your mind out of the gutter…there’s a joke in there about filling holes]. Perhaps someone to kick me in the ass when I need it(which is quite often).
6. Someone who is Organized (since I’m not). I have to blame my mother on this one. Growing up, my mom was so organized that it made me never want to plan anything.  My mom would hand me an itinerary just to walk around the block. Everything was planned and so…I never really learned this skill myself. I gripe about it, but the truth is…I need it.
7. Loves Children (I’d really like to have 20 kids though I know this probably is not going to happen any time soon) I’d think I’d be a good father though…I would not repeat the mistakes my father made (I’d be there).
8. Someone who saves a part of themselves just for me. What I mean here is, to have something that’s not shared with everyone else.
9. Someone who gives Space… I think it’s important to be individuals but together. I don’t want a clone. I’m not sure sure having EVERYTHING in common is such a good thing.
10. And lastly, a good Communicator.

I’m not sure how many Smallville fans are out there, but tonight is the 100th episode and they keep hyping it that "someone close to Clark will die"… the commercials make it seem like Lana’s going to bite the dust. I’d be surprised if that’s what happens but who knows.

I know in the Superman story, Mr. Kent eventually dies from a heart attack but that’s too easy if they kill him off. My money’s on Chloe to be killed off. My reasoning?

1. It’d be a surprise.
2. Chloe is the "newspaper reporter" in the show and if she is killed off, it leaves room for Lois to start being the reporter and investigate her death(since they are related). At the moment, Lois has never had any drive to be a reporter and this could be the event in her life that makes her jump into journalism and take over where Chloe leaves off.
3. Though the commercials make it seem like Lana’s going to R.I.P., there was a show in Season 1 where an old psychic lady would touch people and see how they die…she touched Lana and it showed her being an old lady. I know that doesn’t mean anything, but I’d like to think the show’s writers remember that and do not leave a big HOLE in the continuing story. [For those who don’t remember that show, the psychic touched Lex and died before she could tell everyone that Lex was going be president and unleash nuclear war]  

Anyway…that’s my guess. I really don’t know but I look forward to watching and finding out tonight.

I hope i’m wrong about all this…I really like Chloe’s character.

Chris Penn dead? at only 40?

See what I mean about all this death…it’s as though 2006 is starting out to be another sequel to the movie Final Destination or something. Chris has always been in the shadow of his brothers Sean and Michael but he’s seems to have done way more films.

Speaking of films… I watched Flight Plan and The Fog last night. I was pleasantly surprised at Flight Plan. I thought for sure I would have to fast forward through it but I ended up liking it. I sure wish I could say the same thing about The Fog. Save yourself the rental money on the Fog and just rent the original with Jamie Lee Curtis.

I’m a huge Smallville fan and I was hopeful that Tom Welling was making a good move by doing this remake but whoever is advising Welling on his choices of movie roles needs to be slapped around. This movie is just CRAP.

This is my 1st season of watching American Idol from the start of a season. I didn’t get hooked on it until the middle of last season. So what’s the deal with 8 hours of BAD AUDITIONS? They really know how to milk this show…Frankly, I’m so tired of listening to people who can’t sing.

I could handle a 2 hour audition show but to drag it out for WEEKS makes my brain bleed. I’m just thankful I DVR the show and can fast forward through it. Yes, some of the auditions are humorous but do we really need to sit through hours and hours of out of tune people who make Helen Keller seem to have perfect pitch? GET ON WITH IT ALREADY.

Today’s starting out to be a little frustrating. I’m having some EMAIL troubles and people who are sending me messages are getting a bounce back saying my mail box is FULL. I just checked in my Cpanel and looked at my folders and everything is empty so I don’t know what the trouble could be. I have a support ticket open and I’m waiting to hear back. Meanwhile, I increased my mail box to larger size.

And so, if you emailed me and got a bounce back…give it another shot…it should go through now. GRRRR.

My $400 pair of  hockey skates now seem to be somewhat worthless(at least the blade). As you can see by the photo to the right, the damn blade BROKE. I’m getting ready right now to run off to the skate shop to see if they can put new blades on ‘em. I’m annoyed. Thankfully, we do not have a game tonight like we normally do on Sundays.

The Blade that’s on my skate has holes in it…I think the idea is "less steel = lighter weight = faster skating". I’m pretty sure I’m going to just go with a solid heavier blade like the one above. I’m sure it’ll take a little getting used to but at least I shouldn’t have to worry about the damn blade BREAKING.

Grrr!

Anyway… So if any hockey players out there are thinking about buying skates…stay away from the ones with holes in the blade. Hopefully someone can benefit from this happening to me.

I just returned and now have new SOLID blades in my skates. I was told that with the model Skate I had, I could have had the blade replaced for free if it was under a year old. I missed it by about 6 months …BUT…it didn’t cost too much at all. The skate still seems pretty light too.

Interesting side note: While in the Skate shop I met and talked with Cuba Gooding Jr.

Our conversation was pretty brief but he told me he’s been playing hockey for about the last 12 or 13 years now. I let him know how much I enjoyed the movie Gladiator and he got a little chuckle out of it. I mean, why wouldn’t a hockey guy love a bloody boxing movie eh?

And so, that was pretty cool to run into him there. I watched his team play while waiting for my skate to be finished. I had no idea he was a hockey player.

Ok, what’s the deal with all this DEATH? I mean I know it’s all part of "life" but it just seems like just recently handfuls of people are passing away.

Just after Christmas, my Cuz (another Bob Gentry) who lives up north lost his mother… a few days after I heard that, Shelly Winters died….and just today I heard that Wilson Pickett passed away.

I had the opportunity a little over a year ago to meet Shelly Winters…she actually called me a few times. How is it that Shelly Winters called me? Well, I had just finished performing on Sally Kirkland’s TV talk show and Sally and Shelly were very close[Shelly was like a surrogate mother to Sally]. Sally invited me to come visit Shelly but at the time I was juggling things that had me self-absorbed [I was in NY auditioning for the musical RENT at the time I think and getting ready for a show in Vegas at the Palms Hotel]. Before I knew it, I missed the opportunity… I regret it. There’s much more to the story but that’s the short version.

Wilson Pickett is someone I never had the chance to meet but I’ve always been a huge fan of his music and voice.

"Wilson Pickett, the soul pioneer best known for the fiery hits "Mustang Sally" and "In The Midnight Hour," died of a heart attack Thursday, according to his management company. He was 64"

64 seems MIGHTY young…specially the older I get, the younger it seems.

One of my favorite movies is The Commitments. A great story about an Irish Soul band and in the end they were all hoping Pickett would show up at one of their concerts to "jam" What a great movie this is. If you’re a Pickett fan, check it out.

It just seems like in the last year, we’ve lost some good people…not that we don’t lose good people every year…perhaps it’s just that I’m noticing it much more lately. Okay…now everyone just stop with this dying stuff okay? Let me just say that I’m very sorry for everyone’s loss.

Off subject, I returned from Vegas last night about 2am. It was pretty cold there, but slot machines do give off a little heat. I didn’t gamble too much though. Mainly, I went to just get out of town for a day. I visited with my friend Ruchelle and looked at some real estate there. It’s really amazing what you can get for the money in Las Vegas compared to homes in Southern California.

Here, a 2 bedroom condo STARTS at around a half a million (and I’m not talking 90210 either)…and the cost of living is just crazy. For that, you can buy a huge house with LAND in Vegas.

I’m just toying with the idea of getting a place in LV right now but when I think about having lived in CA for about the last 8 years and basically throwing away about $1000.00 a month in rentals(for very small studio apts), I get a sick feeling in my stomach knowing that about 100K has been wasted and all I have to show for it is this lousy T-shirt.

Owning property has never been some huge dream of mine…it would just be nice is all. With all that being said…it still feels good to be back home

I added a fun little referral plug-in to the journal. I 1st saw this particular plug-in at Pure Mood’s place and thought to myself "wow, I want one of those!" [Her site is much cleaner than mine, I’m thinking I need to do some clean-up work on mine and move things around]. Anyway, if you scroll down to the right of the sidebar you’ll see it. Pretty neato!

I’m getting ready to head to the gym again…and then I’m going to drive to Vegas tonight. I think Vegas will help my toe heal

I know I look rather frumpy in this picture but I guess I am.  It’s one of those pictures where I can hear my mother’s voice saying "Robert! sit up straight!" …I know I tend to slouch but I think I’ve figured out why.

You see, It all goes back to School Days and being one of the shortest kids in my class. I didn’t really start growing until my 12th grade year….so I have a shorter person’s mentality if that makes sense. In my head, I still think of myself as the skinny little guy rather than the 6′2 man I’ve become. [How the hell did that happen?]. Perhaps this is why I’m always slouching over?

Playing hockey a few games ago, I remember hearing a guy on the other team say during the game "I’ll cover the big guy" and it dawned on me that he was talking about ME. It just made me stop and think. No complaints…just thoughts here.

Another observation is that when people meet me who have only seen photos or videos of me, they usually say something like "Hey, you’re much taller in person"… and of course that goes the other way around with actors and people you see on TV. I once saw Dustin Hoffman crossing the street and thought "WOW, he’s very short". I’m willing to bet his mother never had to tell him to stand up straight.

Tall, Short…none of that really matters on any level. I guess the main thing is, if you need me to reach and grab something from the high shelf…just ask, I’m your man. I’m good for that. :)

I broke my toe last night after playing hockey. I sure wish I could say that it was broken by some glorious hockey super powered move, but the sad and pathetic truth is… After the game, as I was taking off my hockey gear I just stubbed my foot on the ground. I guess This Little Piggy is going to be in a little pain for a while…not much anyone can do for a broken toe. I know, it’s sick looking…sorry.

On the funny side, this blog STILL gets tons of Google hits from people who are searching for Toes and that crazy fetish known as Shrimping …so perhaps this broken toe photo is making someone feel all tingly in their Love Organ right now? I sure hope not but GOD that is funny!

I know I haven’t been blogging daily but I’m trying to hit the mark of 3-4 times a week. Truth be told, between Podcasts I want to hear, Blogs I want to read, and porn sites I mean, my love life…I hardly have time to check in on everything daily. And so, I usually end up going to someone’s blog and playing catch-up for a week. I suppose the best way to know when there’s a new entry is to join the little mailing list thingy. All that does is email you the Subject of the journal entry and you can decide for yourself if it’s something you want to read or just ignore. And without sounding too much like a sales pitch, you can leave the mailing list any time. I won’t cry over it …much

What do you guys and gals think about having access to this type of stuff?

I just popped on to write a little blog…I look over on my little counter and it says 43 people are online right this moment at 5:48pm[PST]. This MUST be a mistake :"People Online: 43" Not that I’m complaining in the least, but that’s a little scary and cool all at the same time.

I’ve been getting a little paranoid when I see things like that and start wondering what foolish thing I might have written to warrant those 43 people all at the same time…perhaps it’s just the time of day? Or maybe i’m getting some airplay somewhere and someone was nice enough to mention the website? That would be GREAT!

The other day, I was linked to another blogger’s page where the guy mentioned me in a negative way by saying:

"Who’s this Bob Gentry fellow, shouldn’t he be at work or something? Every time I’m on BE[blogexsplosion.com] his site pops up, how many hours are you on there pal?!"

I posted a comment saying:

"Sorry if my blog is always popping up on BE…it’s because I pay for the credits. So the answer is less than 5 minutes a day. [There’s a button on BE that says something like "don’t show me this blog again"…feel free to click that if the site comes up and you’re annoyed by it]."

This message above is for anyone else who surfs in from BE who does not want to view the site again.

This fella’s post made me smile and yet feel insulted all at once…it was as if he was insinuating that all I do for 24 hours a day is surf and read blogs in order to get my blog read [that’s another way how BE works, for those of you not familiar with it]. I’m starting to wonder if my journal is over-exposed? I think I’m getting a backfire here. Who knows.

On the bright side, getting exposure through these types of sites HAVE brought in more positive feedback than negative so I suppose I can handle a little bit of the flack from others. The main thing I was trying to do was get the music out there for people to hear. I pretty much GIVE AWAY music….people can stream CD quality songs from this site but perhaps that message is getting lost. The hope is that, they like what they hear(or read) and decide to pick up a track or two at iTunes or Napster.

Just in the last few months, I’ve been called everything from narcissistic, ego-maniac, gay-homo, annoying, self-loving, etc…the list goes on. You get the idea. It’s not as though it’s an army of people who say this, just the occasional idiot. I wouldn’t mind so much if I were getting a paycheck of someone like Paris Hilton. All that money has a way of deflecting the bullshit but MY W2’s tell a different story(sorry to say).

Perhaps having my real name in my journal and posting photos of myself have something to do with a few of these type of comments. Funny thing about that is, it’s usually coming from someone who is completely hidden(not that there’s anything wrong with that either). Who knows what the answer is…I know I should ignore, rather than confront, but the bottom line is to anyone wanting a war of the words…this is my journal and I’ll write whatever I want, if you don’t like it…GO FUCK YOURSELF.

I could go on and on here but I’ll stop before I embarrass myself more. To anyone who actually enjoys reading this blog…sorry for putting that out there. It was just something I needed to get off my chest.
