Going Over to the Dark Side
Ok, I bought the new iPhone 3G yesterday. I don’t have it in hand yet since they were out of stock by the time I showed up. I should be getting it in a week or so.
It’s strange…see, I’m excited to get it but I’m also a little sad to let my Treo go. I’ve been a big Treo fan for ages but I’m disappointed that the Treo hasn’t updated ENOUGH to keep up with the iPhone.
They FINALLY released a new Treo today with WiFi but it runs Windows (the Palm version won’t be out for a while still and I’m tired of waiting). I went to look at it yesterday after ordering the iPhone. Sure, the new Treo is nicer than the 700P I have now but it’s still not enough of an improvement to me. I was hoping the new Treo would blow me away…Instead, it looked like a step back- especially after messing with the iPhone.
What’s stopped me from getting an iPhone in the past? My biggest complaint is not having actual buttons for typing. I found the iPhone a little hard to type with but I’m going to force myself to get used to it. I can probably type just as fast on my Treo as I can on a regular computer keyboard, if not faster. All that being said, while making a list of all the neat stuff the new iPhone has, i’ll deal with typing issues that might come along. Who knows… maybe i’ll get used to it (like everyone says).
It seems the people I talk to about the iPhone either love it to death or hate it. Not that I don’t trust my *Apple-Friends but I just want to see for myself.
* Apple-Friends: It’s a Cult. You know who you are

I have friends that are entirely fanatical about their macs.
You’re dead on! It *IS* a cult! haha You’ve been assimilated.
i have a Mac and PC and i find i use the Mac more…however, there’s 2 programs that are only for Windows that i LOVE (Vegas Video and Acid)…those programs are the only reason i still keep the PC
my mac friends are more on the creative side of life than I am .. i’m more analytical (and boring). ::LOL::
Your geek side is shining through again.
geeks rule the world
Just think about the move from Treo to iPhone the same way you treat PC to Mac. They *are* different. I really have no issue with the keyboard myself although I do have a problem with hitting ‘V’ or ‘C’ instead of Space.
I lined up for my iPhone 3G for 5 hours and can confidently say I was one of the first 100 people in the world (23rd in Wellington, New Zealand) to buy one.
I’m also a little worried that AT&T is more costly than Sprint(who i’m with now)…it’s not much more..but it is more.
I’m looking forward to getting the phone…did you sign up for the MobleMe thing?
If you’re worried about the cost of AT&T - take a look at what I pay. I’ve gone the “cheap” way. Converting to US dollars, I pay $19 a month for 20 anytime minutes and 100 SMS and about $23 for 200Mb of data, and I paid $737 for the 16Gb phone. If your plan is anywhere near that I’d be surprised.
As for MobileMe, no I didn’t sign up. I don’t want yet another email address. I’m hoping Google will get on the bandwagon soon and offer push options for GMail, Calendar and contacts (once they get their contacts improved).
i think it’s gonna average something like $130 per month for the stuff i need… unlimited text..1400 minutes( i talk on the phone more than i should) … internet service… i’ll have to look closer at it though to see…i just know it’s more than the $99 all you can talk, text thing sprint has
I just have a Macbook Pro. No iPod. No iTouch. No iPhone. Am I too poor to be a cult member? *sigh*
And when are you going to get on twitter.com so I can stalk you? Bua ha ha haaa!
you’re still in the cult…maybe just a lower rank member is all
what is Twitter? i’ll have to check it out
I want one! I just don’t want to have to switch providers to get it!!!!
Cultist.
yeah…i have to switch from Sprint to AT&T…i just hope it’s not too much trouble
The only thing that the treo has over the Iphone is that you can’t type and drive with an Iphone as the keys are touchscreen.
Yeah typing is tricky for sure.. But the phone is SWEET
