Got my Medical Bill today…

And the total for getting your appendix removed?
$53,987.66!!!
The bill is just for Cedar-Sinai Medical Center…there’s a nice little tag line that says:
“Please note. Your Physicians will bill you separately for their professional services.” and then it goes on to say that there may have been several physicians who participated in my medical care..etc…
Ya know…it’s ALMOST funny.
I’ve applied to see if i can get some reductions or if i qualify to be a “charity case”…not sure how that’ll go. We shall see. [groan]
Bob quickly call your state indegent (sp) medical aid. If you do this quickly and qualify, it will pay for your operation/hospital bills. I had to do that back in college after a horse tried to kill me.

I’ve sent in the paperwork and can only hope i qualify for something.
oh…forgot…also if that other idea doesnt work, contact the billing people at the hospital and see if they have discounts (or what ever they may call it) for people paying cash. And if all else fails…payment plan. I was paying $20 a month for years on a doctor bill
well… i’m curious what the actual Doctor bills will be on top of this…all i can do is wait for those bills LOL

That’s a joke, right? I mean, I had a baby, almost died, had to have surgery and whatnot, and stayed in the hospital for a week and it didn’t total that much. I can’t imagine that is legal. I mean really. My friend who had the aneurysm had BRAIN SURGERY for crying out loud and it was $100,000.
I hope you qualify for something, cuz that’s insane.
But, I’m glad you are still alive and kicking.

I’m looking at the bill as i type this. I think it might be a bit higher since i live in CA too…i dunno though..this is the 1st time i’ve ever been in the hospital and had surgery…hopefully the last.
One aspirin . . . $600.00. Sutures . . . $1000.00 a stitch. Unreal. Can’t wait to hear what the docs felt it was necessary to charge. Let me guess. You had the surgeon, an anesthesiologist, and some sort of x-rays.
At least you can say you are healthy, right? (I always have to find that darn silver lining.)
yeah..the good news is..i’m alive but that bill just might kill me! LOL

some country we have eh? richest one in the world (barely) and this kind of thing goes on.
i’m sure i won’t be paying that full amount but thought i’d just post the mount to warn people not to ever get sick

I agree with John, dear heart–request an itemized bill–it is amazing how things “accidently” get double billed or they charge you for something you didn’t get…

My hospital stay was nice and the room was nice but not THAT NICE!
Glad to be alive and thankful for the medical help but they’ll be no more getting sick on my part.
Wow…for an appendix? Did you go septic and need to be stuck in ICU? My brain tumor didn’t cost a whole lot more than that, and I think the surgery was slightly more complicated…
Next time you need to be sliced and diced, come up to Northern CA. I think we’re more affordable…

In any hospital but Cedars, it probably would have cost 10K at most. But what can you do? You’re a celebrity so I think it’s the only hospital you’re allowed to go to.
LOL I think in order to be a celeb, i’d have to be making oodles of $$$ but i can only hope that one day getting a bill for 54k would be chump change
I was told by a friend, who was unfortunate enough to require brain surgery, that if you’re not insured, the bills can usually be settled for a small fraction of their face value — ten or fifteen cents on the dollar. Physicians only bill as outrageoulsy as they do because they expect to have to negotiate with insurance companies. It’s a powerful comment on the undesirability of a third-party-payer scheme for health care.
yeah..i have a feeling they’ll knock it down…i could handle paying 6k over a little bit of time but 54k is way out of the question…if they want to get anything from me, they’ll knock down the cost
My last heart attack was cheaper than that! (around 45k)

You should check into some health insurance! When my company upped the insurance costs, I went on my own and found my own insurance. I think I pay about $115 a month for just me.
yeah…medical insurance is the next step…perhaps too little too late …ah well
