Snap, Crackle, and Pop
Ok, I’m on the fence about this Snap Plug-In that I’ve been using the last few days on my blog.
If you Mouse-Over this link, it shows what Snap does. My 1st thought was…"Hey, this is neat" (I like "Blog Toys"). I like the idea of being able to see a snapshot of a link rather than having to click on it…it’s NOT as though is a HUGE Bubble or anything.
Then, someone alerts me that there’s some sort of Anti-Snap campaign going???
The argument is something like…people are saying it’s annoying to be reading and every link is sort of a "Pop Up" ….Of course, I never thought of it like that otherwise I would have never installed it. Basically, I thought it might be nice to get a preview of things and then letting readers decide whether or not they wish to click it.
I’m told it eats up bandwidth as well…but what do I know.
So what do you guys think? Is it annoying? Neat? Or a passing Blog Phase?
I certainly don’t want to push readers away over a plug-in. I will say that after reading and hearing that there’s this big Snap Haters Club, it annoyed me to think that the creators of Snap probably busted their ass to come up with a nice fun little "Extra" for bloggers and they’re taking some flack for it.
Anyway..I’m on the fence and would like to hear what other readers and bloggers think. No, I CAN think for myself but to make up my mind before hearing all sides is silly
Off subject…I am suspended from my next hockey game for fighting that last game. It was either pay a fine or take the suspension. I thought my rep my might increase a little more if i took the suspension
ha!!!

The Snap windows don’t pop up by themselves, only if you mouse-over the link… so I’d never have even known they were there, because I can read your blog without using my mouse cursor as a finger to follow the lines. I don’t think the Snap pop-ups really ADD anything to your blog, except the “geeky cool factor”, which of course I enjoy.
I can take ‘em or leave ‘em… pop ‘em or not.
I’m a suspension supporter… go, Fightin’ Bob!
yeah..i’m all about taking the suspension..i don’t like to miss games but we have some crazy schedule coming up…a game on Thurs, Skate Night on Sat, game on Sun, and one on Monday…i’ll take the next game off and get a break
I understand why people may not like Snap - it obscures what’s underneath and you have to move your mouse to clear it away. But that said, I actually like Snap. If you click quick enough it doesn’t pop up at all and if you’re a slow poke, it gives you a “look before you leap” advantage. For those who grouse, I’d say “stop mousing around!” *snap*snap*
yeah..i like the “look before you leap” webbing too…it actually caused me to want to click on some of the links just because of the image.
i just googled more about it…here’s a post that slams Snap
http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2006/12/29/wordpresscom-please-stop-using-snap-preview/
So, are you gonna fight Lorelle now?
oh gawd no..i only fight with padded hockey gear on that guards my teeth..besides..she’d kick my ass
I took my son to a fight this weekend and a hockey game broke out
Seriously, went to a UofA game…mmm can’t beat those smelly testosterone clouded young men slamming eachother around.
what about us old guys
hahah
speaking of old guys….mind you, these dreams must be related to last trimester pregnancy….I had a dream about having a thresome with Bono and The Edge. Is that old enough for you? lol
It took some getting used to but I do kind of like the preview. I think the “haters” are just people who have to resist any change in their lives. It was mildly annoying but kinda handy. Why waste a click if you don’t have to?
maybe i’ll set it up so it just does it on certain pages and not EVERY link that there is on the page..i think that might work out for the best (if i can figure that out)
I thought it was kind of fun to have snaps “because we could”. It didn’t annoy me because I didn’t mouse to a link unless I intended to click, and it didn’t help me because I already intended to click. In the end, I think I grew tired of “because we could” and it became a useless but harmless distraction. How’s that for a paragraph that says nothing?
yeah…it’s a blog toy is all…i was just curious if it “bugged” anyone
Anti snap campaign? Excuse me I have some real lif problems I’m going to deal with.
K
HA! you mean you’re not all living day to day wondering what Rosie and Donald are going to say next ?
I had it on my blog for a few days. I liked it at first but after a bit it got to be annoying. I still visit blogs that have it tho.
Yeah..I’ll probably just keep it on the site until i get bored with it

Same thing happened with the referral plug-in a while back…it was neat for a bit but after a while i was wondering why i needed it. I think the snap people should give an option to let the readers turn it off themselves and that might solve some of the trouble….something like that shouldn’t be too hard to do
Doesn’t bug me at all.
i took it off just for tonight…someone was saying that they couldn’t REAd the blog..i thought maybe that was the cause..i’ll try it again..i actually like the plug in
it’s cool!
I like it. I added it to my blog. I don’t care who doesn’t like it. (I’m such a rebel.) I don’t mouse over links as a general rule, so it doesn’t bother me and wouldn’t if I DID mouse over every link.
Do whatever you want with YOUR blog.
yeah..i like it too…i’m still on the fence. I might gt tired of it down the road..but i hope they come up with some new features for it
