And the Winner is?
Here’s part of an email going out…but I wanted to post it here 1st.
Hi Everyone,
As some of you might know …we did not take home the StarTomorrow “prize” but I wanted to send out a sincere thank you to everyone who voted, helped spread the word, and spent the time to help get us to the Top 5. We have won without “winning.” I know that might not make sense but it’s true!
Sure, we really wanted to “win” but, in the last boxing round we ducked when we saw a punch coming… No fear, some really good things are just ahead for us!
Mainly, thank you all so much for being in our corner…maybe next time we can hold the spit bucket for you all
It really means much to me that you took us all the way till the very end. The amount of support has been overwhelming and we hope it continues.
These emails will (thankfully) die down a little…I was feeling like a pest…but I’ll be sure to send out important updates as they happen.
Meanwhile, let me leave you with the invite to our show on November 14th at 7:30pm: Tix at Ticketmaster or at the door. If you can’t make the show…buy a ticket anyway
Better yet….get a ticket and come so we can say thank you for all of your help in the flesh!
Lastly… As I mentioned before, I won Rock Singer Songwriter of the Year (2006) at the 16th Annual LA Music Awards …I heard they’re having a live stream of the show [Correction: they will be posting edited video from the show on the site later]on Nov 9th at http://www.lamusicawards.com for anyone wanting to tune in.:)
Please pass this along to anyone you passed along other “Vote for Bob” emails. Again…Thanks Everyone!
Oh… someone pointed this out to me in the middle of the contest but I didn’t think it was appropriate to blog about at the time….but at one point in October, my website was actually getting more visits than StarTomorrow’s [according to alexa.com]. I’m very proud of that.

*I took a “Blog Vacation” in July
Thanks for all the emails…those are very sweet!

You wrote “prize” before they announced the winnner… “prize”??
it really depends on how you say the word “prize”

but in all seriousness, we really have won and I am really thankful for that
Your the winner in my mind dear heart–mine & everyone els’e! Looking for the new CD release!
Love & Hugs,
Steph
Thanks Hon!
I’m looking forward to getting back in the studio…so after the show on the 14th..we get back on track
You speak in riddles but I can read between the lines. We’re smart cookies.
That must feel great!
I’ve heard about reality show contracts and how bad they can be. I bet you’re not even supposed to talk about it.
That’s AMZAING about the Alexa stuff! I never knew your site had that much traffic! I read you all the time though so I can see why everyone else would too
yeah… I’m proud of my website and often i’m shocked myself at the traffic i get(or give)

sorry about the riddles…everything has worked out for the best..i’m sure of this. “AmZaing” …hehehe..it’s ok..i read dyslexified typos
I think in all our hearts, you are the true winner. Hugs!
seriously…everyone involved is a winner…we’ve gained from doing the show.
On to the next thing …thank you soooo much for th help, btw!
Awww. So sorry hun. I was really rooting for you. Congrats on the award. I’m gonna watch for sure. Huggles. (yeah i’ve been spending way 2 much time in yahoo chat lol)
I hope the stream on their site works well…

i went shoping for a shirt to wear today..i need more style
Thanks for sending votes our way!
Well that’s a bummer !!! But like you said at least you got a lot of publicity and many nore new fans then before this whole thing started. Plus you’re the rock singer songwriter of the year !! It’s not all bad so keep rockin’ !! We’re all behind you waiting for the next CD, tour….. And anywhere else this takes you we’ll be there !!
yeah…maybe Brooke and I need to do our own little tour
I’m still all excited about our show on the 14th!
What about Yamaha comercials? Man I bet you get all kindsa residual publicity and the freedom to do it. Cool.
Wish I could be there for your show. You know they have this giant casino 3 miles from my house. I’ll go ask em when they are gonna get your band up here. You guys up for a trip to Oregon?
Yamaha comercials! yes..that would be sweet…..never know..i could be featured in their Yamaha Mag and online…time will tell with that though
Bob I am so proud of you. I know I haven’t been keeping up with your blog in awhile but I voted every week. I know that someday, in the near future, you are going to be rich and famous and I will be able to say I read your blog before the success went to your head, lol. Good luck and God Bless, I know you can do it!
thanks Melanie! very sweet of you….you haven’t missed too much on the blog other than it being one big Star tomorrow Commercial LOL

that’ll end after this post though
wish you could be at the show on the 14th!
will stop in your place soon!!
Hey Sweetie,
You should have won, we all know that but getting as far as you did was a HUGE thing. I’m sure it’ll open even more doors for you.
The best is yet to come.
Hugs,
Raida
aw…sweet of you to say!

Really…we already have won…we may not have the title but lotza GREAT things are coming …and in my tell-all book deal i get offered, you guys are going to drop your jaws at what i have to say…JUST KIDDING!!!! LOL
I call dibs on the forward! Lets see, what can an 8th cousin have to say about somebody she’s only been aware of for a few months? Don’t worry, I’ll make up… Oh I mean think of something! (cue maniacle laughter)
I’ll just skip to the end to see what happens
Bummer!!! but no Bummer… You are a winner for me and for all of us your supporters… though, you din’t get the Star Tomorrow but you won Rock Singer Songwriter of the Year (2006) at the 16th Annual LA Music Awards… God knows what to give you, so he gave you the Rock Singer Songwriter of the Year and gave the Star tomorrow to someone else.
You are always a winner Bob… and on the first time we met here online I knew then that you’re going to be a star… You are a Star now and you will shine as the days will come… keep it up… We are always here…
Thanks Rob! All of us in this contest are winners in some way..

Hopefully this is just a bridge to something better
Thanks much for the support and wearing the Bob Banner
Congratulations to Cindy, and now that I’ve said that: you know it’s a real disappointment that the “good guys finish last” in the music business. In the middle of all these nice comments, I’m going to post my analysis: I’ve been watching this whole process like the sceptic (or cynic) I am… I don’t know if this will make you feel any better, but I have to tell you that I don’t think you ‘lost’… I think you were ‘used’. I think it’s very suspicious that StarTomorrow never reported how many votes were cast for each artist in any of the rounds… that smells like fraud and manipulation to me. Based on the Alexa traffic ratings, I siimply DON’T believe that Cindy has more fans than you… What I DO believe is that the producers of the show already had a clear idea of how many votes you guys were going to get in the last round because they had the voting records from the previous 13 weeks. Logic also says that they would NOT dare to announce a winner and risk the embarrassment of that group not signing the proffered recording contract, so I’m betting that they sent out a contract days ahead of time to feel out who would sign and who wouldn’t. I wonder if YOU got offered that contract and turned it down… I wonder how many groups turned the contract down before someone finally signed on the dotted line… Any comment…?
I’m not sure who has more fans than who or any of that stuff…i know we’re both lucky to have some great fans an friends.
I’ll admit, I TOO would love to see the actual votes just out of curiosity…i don’t know what the vote counts were, but I’m pretty sure I gave some killer web referrals numbers…of course, i got a few back from it as well. Mainly it was our jobs to bring as much as we could…it’s what we signed up for.
As for the other things you wonder about..i have to say “no comment”
Bob- I’m with a record company and we will be sending someone to check out your show. Not being with the reality show is the best thing that could have happened to you. You’re a very witty and a clever writer. Keep doing what you’re doing because it’s working.
Great Dan!
we will be very happy to have you there! You’ve probably already talked to my manager but i emailed you her contact info to you just in case… with a little note of Thanks Too!
I think Mike The Math Guy’s comments are probably closer to true than we’ll ever get to know. Anyone who has spent some time on the inside of entertainment industry and record labels will tell you that it is not always as it appears or sounds.
As for Bob getting “used”, I hope that in the long run he will “use” the exposure and momentum this experience has built to his advantage. I know it sucks as fans to see him “not win”. But with the entire contest shrouded in mismanagement, and lack of information, declaring a winner is merely that, Startomorrow declaring a winner. Were the voting results audited? What were the numbers? Why don’t they share? Was a contractual obligation balked at by certain contestants? Were contract terms fair and reasonable? Were negotiations handled in good faith, or dropped on unsuspecting contestants at the 11th hour.
It is a safe assumption that Startomorrow did not hash through detailed contracts with all contestants. At what point did they enter into negotiations? The Final 10, 8 or 5… Having worked on the inside, I would bet on the fianl 5? I feel for all contestants. You get this far, and here comes a contract. Sign it, or else you are out. Is the contract fair? That’s a rhetorical question, of course not. So now you have a few days to stress over signing your life away on Startomorrow’s terms. If you are fortunate enough to have a savvy attorney to protect you, you MIGHT have time for a couple phone calls and a response draft of contract, but no real time for negotiation. So more than likely its a yes or no decision as the deadline looms and we in the outside world wait for a winner.
And Bob you are exhibiting class by dodging the issue. Maybe you are in fear on non-disclosure agreements you undoubtedly signed, but ultimately you are doing what you should. Sour grapes never benefit, and it appears you wisely know that you are better left in control of your career decisions than a reality TV show that has been poorly run from the start.
The competitive spirit in all of us, wants to know who statistically won. Who got the most votes. I doubt we will ever know. If it was Cindy, congrats. If however it was the more likely scenario of smoke and mirrors, than anyone who still controls their career to capatilize on momentum gained through the past three months is the winner.
And without saying it directly Bob, you appear to be in a good spot. So go kill them next week and chart your destiny on your terms.
WOW Mike,

I think i’m going to give you a prize for longest journal comment
My whole life has been “dodging issues”…I’m an EXPERT at that
I’m just going to focus on all the good stuff…but these comments are very interesting. I’m not really sure how to respond to this one Mike.
I totally agree with this other Mike… being in control of your career choices at this point with all the exposure you’ve gotten makes YOU the real winner in this contest.
StarTomorrow used you to generate web traffic and advertising bucks but now you’re in a position to use the exposure and momentum you got from them. EXCELLENT!!!
Yo Bob…I always believed in your talent and the contest confirms that you ARE a winner in many ways. You never know what opportunities lie ahead so keep going after your dream.
You Rock. -T
Tony! you so ROCK! Not only do you come in and sing background vox with me a tune, you pass the word to your friends and fans to vote…man, I couldn’t ask to know a nicer person! Seriously, I can’t thank you enough!
Whoah! I am soooo naieve! After reading above I am glad it weren’t me. How tempting to sign a contract like that and just ignore the limitations imposed on you. Kinda like when I was in the Army! You sign your rights away for four years. Of course in the Army they were very clear about it. “We OWN you when you sign that dotted line!” was repeated many times. No vague hidden contractual language and no lawyers needed. Yeah I think Bob got the better end of the stick!
I’m not saying any of that stuff above happened. But let me just say, I have won without winning…i really feel this way…i’m only going to look at what is gained from this.
Well Bob, we all know you don’t want to sell out and I think from the sounds of things that’s what would’ve happened. You also don’t want to sell yourself short so I’m glad you are doing what’s best for you and the band and staying in control. I wish I could be at the show.
Have a wonderful night tonight
And have a wonderful show on the 14th!
Thanks Tonia!
I’m going to tryt o get some of the show on video and maybe post some of that
i wish you could be at the show too! Perhaps at a show down the road then?
Sorry you didn’t win the NBC thing, but SUPER congrats on the LA Music Awards!! I’d love to be at the show next weekend, but alas - it is quite the commute from Chicago. Make sure you let me know if you are gonna be around here anytime. I’d be there fo’ sure!
Hi Wendy! Thanks so much for voting and spreading the word. We won in so many other ways…we just don’t walk away with the title is all
see you soon!!
That’s a bummer you didnt win but look on the brightside. You got a lot of exposure and surely made a ton of new fans in the process!:)
“We won in so many other ways…we just don’t walk away with the title is all”
Sometimes “winning” is not really winning at all…hard to explain.
The trouble with those shows, Bob, is that the one with the most talent and such does not win, BUT in the long run it’s better for you. You’ve got the exposure, and LOADS of fans, so you just have to take it to the next level and get your own deal, where you are free to do what you wish to do. You aren’t tied down to the name and prestige of the show you were on and you can WOW us on YOUR OWN TERMS!!
Congratulations! I can’t wait to
downloadbuy your new cd!yeah..i’m pretty sure the winner is the person who didn’t win…but time will tell on that one..meanwhile…my “tied for 2nd” will look nice on the bio
Thanks a bunch Hon!
