It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane…It’s a DUD!
I mentioned that I went to see Superman Returns the other day and was really let down. I really WANTED to love it. I guess I just expected way too much. I’ll try to explain without giving away any major spoilers…
See, I was under the impression that this Superman movie was a whole new movie and that it would be able to stand on its own…Instead, this was more like PART 6 to the Christopher Reeves films. I had hoped for them to go back to the beginning and have a whole new take on it[like "Batman Begins"] rather than the one measly little Smallville flashback. The story had so many holes in it too…The more I think about the movie, the more I really hated it(and mostly for reasons I can’t say without giving away the lame-ass plot). I kept waiting to be blown away and found myself a little bored in quite a few spots.
Ok…now that that’s out of the way, there were some things I did like about it. I laughed at a few of the jokes[that was unexpected]… I thought it was cast well and the acting was just dandy… The FX? They were just fine… but again…nothing made me go "WOW!" Mainly…the story was boring.
Maybe If I walked in knowing that this film was basically Part 6 to the old Superman Movies I wouldn’t have been so let down. Technically, it’s a great looking film and it was good to see Superman back on the screen again….just don’t get too excited about it and you might actually enjoy some of it. I give it a 3 out of 5 stars.
Some folks clapped after it ended…so some of you might still love it…who knows.
Have a Happy 4th of July Weekend!

heh heh…you used the word “dandy.” My crush gets bigger.
and all it takes it to use the word “dandy”?

Truth be told…i just type with words like “dandy” and “reckon”…i’m not sure i’ve ever spoken them for real ….shhhh
I was just reading some of the critic’s reviews of SR. All in the B to A- range. Go figure. I’m still not expecting much as I never agree with what critics have to say. Most of them blasted “Memoirs of a Geisha” and I thoroughly enjoyed the film. I guess it’s all a matter of taste.
If I had taste like the general population, I’d probably have Puff Daddy posters all over my walls.
i can see you now with all the P-Diddy stuff all around your place…sounds like it’d be a cool pad
As for SR…i guess i’ll have ot watch the DVD and see if i still hate it in a few months…perhaps not expecting much will make me like it more
The movie was mediocre at best. It seemed to drag on forever. Had I not spent $6.25 for the ticket and been with others, I would have gone home.
I wonder what the folks you went with thought of the movie…did any of them like it?
I’ll probably rent it when it comes to DVD just to make sure i didn’t like it
If Superman did return his nose has gotten bigger! Cute Doggy!
ha! Thanks Barry
I’m not sure i’d dress mine up in a cape..he’d never forgive me
I’m a huge greyhound fan but this pup’s not mine
I plan on writing a post about this movie soon, too. Although admittedly, I’m not nearly as big of a fan of the genre so some of my observations will probably come across as a bit jaded. I enjoyed the movie overall though but I could see how some hardcore fans might have been bummed.
i look forward to your review….
it’s ok to like it …i just wanted so much more….i really think if i walked in just thinking it was another sequal, i’d probably like it
