[In Line at The Grove Theater to see The Da Vinci Code]
I just returned from my nap…er…I mean from seeing The Da Vinci Code. MAN, what a snoozer this thing is! I really wanted to like it though and I tried my best to stay awake through the 150 minutes but I found myself being forced into some sort of cryogenic deep sleep. It’s probably worth renting if there’s nothing else in the video store shelves though.
There did seem to be a few people in the audience who liked it. Very weak applause after it ended but I’m thinking they were clapping because it was finally OVER. I just expected more. No, I haven’t read the book…I’m sure it’s better than the movie. I won’t give anything away and ruin the movie (even worse than it already is) by telling the twist at the end that seemed pretty obvious from early on.
After the hype on Dateline NBC, 20/20 and PrimeTime Live (and other shows like it) …well….there really isn’t any more to the story. So basically, if you know anything about it, you’re just waiting for the movie to catch up to what everyone’s already heard about the story. I can’t knock the story…it’s a good one but I think I would have enjoyed it much more not knowing anything about it.
I’m not sure what I was expecting …I just know that I really hated the flick. The Albino Monk actually gave me a laugh but I think he was supposed to be scary
Enough about this…just my 2 Cents on it is all.
I guess there’s still hope for Summer movies with X-Men 3 and Superman Returns

The premise of the movie, namely that the Catholic Church has been covering up the truth for 1000’s of years to protect their own control over the flock of the faithful, is just so HARD to believe… after all, every one KNOWS that the Priests and Church Leaders are the ultimate in godliness and honesty and piety and humility and love for the people in their care… who would ever believe that they would indulge in lies and deceit and even stoop to paying off people who threatened to expose the truth that would undermine their power and position… it’s unthinkable!
Ask any altarboy…
I hate big budget blockbusters that barely break wind…
Maybe you can get your 3 hrs back in heaven…
LOL!
yes, unthinkable for sure
the story is a good one…the movie was just BO-ring. I’m not sure what would have made it better. Hanks could have done better doing a remake of “Show Girls”
It was just crap ..shame too.
I know whatcha mean. I saw MI3 and it was also predictable.
I’m waiting for A Scanner Darkly and Peaceful Warrior ;).
K
I figure i’ll rent MI3 but i’m not sure i can wait for the rental of Superman and X3
You write: “I would have enjoyed it much more not knowing anything about it.”
Well you’re gonna hate the new Superman movie cause I know you’re a Superman fan and I’m sure you know what happens. How many times do you think they can rehash an old story? I think the best thing about today’s remakes is the new CGI technology that makes for delicious eye candy but in the end, nothing can help a bad script, bad acting and bad directing.
I hated DaVinci Code as well. Tom Hanks could have phoned in his performance. (Poor Leonardo is probably rolling over in his grave.) I kept falling asleep. I know some people are gonna love it just as some people like Volvos…I’m not saying that’s bad. It’s just a matter of taste. I’m glad it was banned in the Philipines. Now all those poor people don’t have to spend their hard earned money watching a worthless piece of shit. Too bad it wasn’t banned here but I’d probably end up paying for a pirated copy just to see it. From now on I’m waiting for movies to come out on DVD and it seems lately, the waiting period has been less and less since movie theaters will soon be a thing of the past - just like the old drive-ins. And speaking of movie theaters - no wonder they’re headed for extinction. I will never go to a movie theater again as long as I live! Allah strike me dead if I do. The seats are so uncomfortable. It’s like sitting in 10th class on “Ninety-Nine Cent Airlines.” My butt was so sore after I got outa there I felt like I just had a 2 1/2 hr colonoscopy.
the superman movie has a slight twist…it skims through the stuff everyone already knows and goes right to where he leaves and loses his powers…and then RETURNS

even knowing that story i think i’ll love it…at least i hope to
Ok first I never have understood CLAPPING at the end of a MOVIE. It’s a movie, for de Vinci’s sake, it’s not like you are telling the actors you enjoyed their performance.
Second, I can’t stand any 2 1/2 hour movie. Gone With the Wind, Titanic, ok I can’t think of any other 2 1/2 hour movies, but they both put me to sleep. Didn’t they used to take intermissions between GWTW when it was first at theaters?
Third, I still like Tom Hanks and Opie.
Forth, I’ll see anything that pokes at the church.
I do believe there was a fifth, but my son distracted me.
amen
yeah…that’s the nice thing about renting movies…PAUSE BUTTON

i don’t mind a long movie at home but in the theater…EEEK!
i try not to drink anything otherwise i have to pee right in the middle of the good parts….
this Da Vinci movie had no good parts though so i wouldn’t have missed out on anything
I hate long movies as well but I must admit “Gladiator” at 2 hours and 58 minutes moved along quite well. I think it was because there was rarely a lull in the death and destruction. Not to mention the amazing CGI of the Colleseum.
Now I admit I haven’t seen the Da Vinci code but my boss said something that made me laugh…he said:
I think that movie sucked so bad it invented new ways of suckage.
ya know, i really wanted to like it too
Suckage LOL
I read the book when it was first published. It was an interesting read but not something I ever thought they’d make a film out of. I haven’t seen the film yet but as a lot of people like you have said, it reaaaaaally dragged. I generally enjoy Tom Hanks to a certain degree but I’m not sure if this film was right for him.
I’m chompin’ at the bit for X3. It was really one of the better “comic to big screen” ports.
Cheers!
LOL @ your verification.
yeah, i normally like Hanks in movies he does…I also usually like Ron Howard’s movies too…but this movies really put me to sleep

I’m going to try and see X3 today if i can …i can’t wait!
just for your information. .. Gone with the wind was four hours long, not 2 and a half. Its the best movie ever so don’t dis it. The Davinci Code was alright. I thought itd be better, but I love audrey tetou so it was alright.
I love a good long movie…i’m into those long saga type things but this just didn’t keep my attention is all

I’d say the movie is worth the rental(maybe)
