Quick and Painless Audition
I just returned from my audition for CBS’s Rockstar Season 2. I got there about 9:45am and I’m home at 10:30am. There were not as many people as I saw lined up outside yesterday. I’d say there were only about 10 people set for the 10am slot.
We signed in at the front desk..handed in our paper work…then they handed us a large envelope with a number on it (mine was 399). We then had to hold up the envelope and someone snapped our picture with a digital camera and waited our turn to get up on stage. We watched as some other people were on the stage. I wasn’t nervous, as I thought I might be but once I was there and got comfortable with my surroundings, everything was pretty easy.
Everyone there was told that we could only do 1 song rather than the 3 they told us to be ready to do, so I did my most Rockin’ raspy tune. [Take Me Under] I’ve sang this song about 200 times in my life so it took no real thinking. I was on automatic. Most people did their originals which was a relief to hear so I didn’t feel weird about doing mine. I had no flubs and I did the song as best as I could have ever done it.
Most people before me seemed a little quiet on the mic and here I was belting out so maybe I stood out. I did get applause after and a couple "Woo’s" from one girl judge as I was playing. That was nice. She was probably the Paula Abdul of the bunch who likes everything ..or maybe she really liked me
In any case, I did my thing and the rest is now up to someone else.
They didn’t let anyone know either way if they got it. Instead, they video taped the audition and will probably look back through it all and decide from there. I actually felt pretty good about it though. I thought I sounded pretty good but I’m wondering if everyone who was trying out thinks the same thing. And so, that’s that. Now I just wait and see if I move on. Hopefully, I’ll know either way soon.
The other people auditioning seemed pretty nice but I think we were all sizing each other up. There were a couple people I listened to before me that were doing real quiet and wispy songs. I’d like to think I have a little more advantage over them but I guess time will tell.
Anyway…that was my audition. Not much else to tell.
Oh, they did have last season’s Rockstar:INXS show muted and playing on the TV monitors as people were trying out. Overall, the room had a friendly vibe and it wasn’t stiff like some other auditions I’ve been on. Out of my hands now…but my fingers are crossed

Good song choice… AGAIN! The applause and the “woo’s” SHOULD make you feel good about your performance… or maybe they really loved the new belt buckle…
Excellent, dude! (serious clapping and woo-ing here!)
yeah, the belt buckle is pretty bad ass
It’s always a good idea to buckle-up before a critical audition
Where can I hear that song?:?:
i just have an old recording of the song…it’s not a very good recording though, but i like the song..it’s a rocker
I know they didn’t tell you if you made it, but did they at least tell you when you’d know by? And also, how many more rounds are there after this?
naw..they didn’t say that..i didn’t think to ask..i shouls have

i’m guessing if i don’t hear anything in the next few weeks than i can get it out of my head…i’d almost rather hear a quick “no” than a slow “yes”…this waiting and wondering is no fun
Don’t know you but found your blog and I’m actually singing onboard another Princess ship right now. I’m acquaintances with someone from last seasons Rockstar, and I can hook you up with her if you’d like - at least she can tell you what to expect.

sure thing…if they put me through, i’d love to chat with her to get the inside scoop. For now…i just have to wait and see if there’s a call. I was told they were going to call and let people know either way but i really doubt they’re going to be making a ton of calls letting people knwo that they didn’t get it
who knows though.
How’s the cruise line…i was just on the one Princess that didn’t catch fire
i hope you weren’t on that ship
I think it was a good pick for that audition. I find the whole audition process strange, it’s like flipping a switch. “OK…. Sing/PLAY”.
yeah..i don’t mind that part so much. It’s the waiting and wondering that gets me. I’d rather hear a “no” than wonder.
I just know i nailed my audition song but i’ll be super lucky to be picked from 60 thousand guys to get to be one of the 8.
that would be nice though
Auditions suck but at least for you it wasn’t your basic cattle call. Sending in a DVD was your ticket to bypassing the dregs. I don’t know who has it worse - the people auditioning or the people who have to sit through hours and hours of nutsy people who think they can 1)sing 2)act 3)become a model 4)are funny 5)or just show up to be annoying. This town is loaded with loonys. Being a photographer I come across it all the time and must confess that I do lie at times, “Oh yes. You’re a spitting image of Angelina Jolie.” while thinking,(in your dreams honey!)
I suppose that’s what makes this town so unique. I shouldn’t complain. I retired comfortably playing the game for 35 years.
yeah…i’m not sure i would have liked standing in that huge line yesterday…getting a call time was a BONUS for sure!

I would not like to be one of the casting people though…i think having to listen to all the crap would drive me crazy
It’s not listening to the crap that drives you crazy. It’s just hard because you know somone has taken their dream, pierced it on a hook, thrown it out to a very big sea, and they’re sitting there waiting for a tug on the line. If you’re a good person you try to keep the water calm, but occasionally you bounce the float and there is this enormous ripple effect. Vals right, sometimes it’s easier to just tell someone they were great.
Let me share a story. Don’t know if anyone knows who Barry Bostwick is. We were roomates in college. Kept in touch for many years and one day he bought over his new girlfriend who wanted to be an actress. She had real buggy eyes. After they left everyone said, “That poor gal with those buggy eyes. She’ll never make it.” That poor gal was Susan Sarandon.
Val,
Spin City Right? And a lot of guest spots on other shows?
I guess my point, is that it’s not easy being the judge either. Especially when most of the time you have a criteria and your personal opinion means not much.
Sorry Bob. Way off track, just thinking about auditions.
No doubts you had a rockin performance.
Yep. Spin City and “Rocky Horror Picture Show” his first big break and co-starred with Susan Sarandon. They were dating at the time while she was married to actor Chris Sarandon.
dude thats the greatest story! please keep them coming
That’s a great song choice Bobby. But I wasnt clear who the band is.
the song i did you mean? The song i did was one i wrote
Story? The Susan Sarandon story? I got a million of them but this is Bob’s blog and I don’t wanna bore everyone with my dumb celebrity stories. I think Bob’s escapades are far more interesting. This is history in the making. One day you will say to your friends, I used to leave messages on that guy’s blog (as you point to the cover of Time magazine.)
OMG I couldn’t stand waiting. I’d want to know *NOW*!
*NOW*
ARRAHHHHHAAAAAAAAHHGGGG *NOW*
I figure it’s out of my hands now…all i can do is hope for the best

i did have a fun time doing the audition though…it really was painless
**all toes and fingers crossed!**
mine too

i’m doubtful i’ll get on the show….with all the people who have tried out, it might be tricky but i’m hopeful
hug!
Sounds like you rocked their socks, Bob! Break a leg and all that jazz; I’m not usually one for the Boob Tube Competitions, but I’ll watch you - so I can tell my non-blogging friends and family (nonchalantly as all hell, of course), that I “know” that guy.
Actually, I’m very excited at the prospect of seeing you TV - on account of I “know” you and all…
well…if this show doesn’t work out, perhaps i’ll try something else. I’m all about the shameful plugs and exposure

HOLY CRAP!
I’m reading this post and I just suddenly felt all giddy and excited for you….Let that be a VERY good sign.
It must have felt great. Getting the “YES” will of course feel greater!
Fingers crossed, sweetie…toes and eyes too. Plus - how awesome would it be to see you on the ol’ tube! WHOO HA!
Hugs,
Raida
yeah…i’m doubtful and yet hopeful at the same time. I felt good about it but one never knows what the folks in charge have in mind. I guess we’ll see soon enough…either way, it was fun
hug!
