Broken
My $400 pair of hockey skates now seem to be somewhat worthless(at least the blade). As you can see by the photo to the right, the damn blade BROKE. I’m getting ready right now to run off to the skate shop to see if they can put new blades on ‘em. I’m annoyed. Thankfully, we do not have a game tonight like we normally do on Sundays.
The Blade that’s on my skate has holes in it…I think the idea is "less steel = lighter weight = faster skating". I’m pretty sure I’m going to just go with a solid heavier blade like the one above. I’m sure it’ll take a little getting used to but at least I shouldn’t have to worry about the damn blade BREAKING.
Grrr!
Anyway… So if any hockey players out there are thinking about buying skates…stay away from the ones with holes in the blade. Hopefully someone can benefit from this happening to me.

I just returned and now have new SOLID blades in my skates. I was told that with the model Skate I had, I could have had the blade replaced for free if it was under a year old. I missed it by about 6 months …BUT…it didn’t cost too much at all. The skate still seems pretty light too.
Interesting side note: While in the Skate shop I met and talked with Cuba Gooding Jr.
Our conversation was pretty brief but he told me he’s been playing hockey for about the last 12 or 13 years now. I let him know how much I enjoyed the movie Gladiator and he got a little chuckle out of it. I mean, why wouldn’t a hockey guy love a bloody boxing movie eh? 
And so, that was pretty cool to run into him there. I watched his team play while waiting for my skate to be finished. I had no idea he was a hockey player.
Well…off and running again.

If you were skating on it when that happened, it must have been like a train wreck on ice! I’ve never heard of a hockey skate breaking from rough use, so I must conclude that it was a heinous act of terrorism by some foreign hockey zealots, jealous of the USA’s increasing hockey prowess! Homeland Security should be notified at once…
LOL naw…there was no big wreck but it could have been bad if the blade were to fly off and hit someone.

It wouldn’t do to have the darn blade break during a game that is for sure. Go with the solids! Did it break while you were on the ice or just in handling it off the ice?

I just noticed a very little break in it last night…i’m thinking it must have happened at the last game but I just didn’t realize it.
I just returned from getting the solids put in today….they still seem pretty light.
sheesh Bob, is there anyone you haven’t met?? LOL. Not only have I never seen ice hockey, I’ve never even seen an ice rink! (or snow…)

Cuba was pretty cool…i hope i didn’t offend him by pointing out an old movie of his…he’s probably used to people saying how much they like the movies “Jerry Maguire” or “Radio” since those were more meaty parts…but i’m just loved that Gladiator moivie

I thought about just sending the broken blade back. You would think that a company like Baurer would stand by their product.
Truth be told i was just so happy that it didn’t cost an arm and a leg to fix that i forgot to keep the old broken blade. Perhaps i should write them an email

yeah…i’m all set for the next game now and have learned a nice skate lesson.
Cuba was very cool and seemed very down to Earth. I really didn’t talk to him that long (I didn’t want to be a pest) but he’s someone i did want to talk to ..specially since he was playing hockey. I watched his team play a little…and he’s pretty good too
I’ve got a miniscule crack in my blade housing… My wife actually SUGGESTED I get new skates. I misjudged her. I thought for sure she’d make me skate on them until the rivets all rusted off. I keep shopping around, but most of the boots I see have that aluminum foil look that I’m not a fan of.

LOL THAT is funny! Some of the guys on my team might have the same wife

My daughter went ice skating for the first time last Sunday - she loves it.
Glad your blade didn’t break when you were on the ice in a game. That could have caused a nasty accident.
I was worried it would take much longer to get fixed.
I thought i’d have to send them away and end up buying another pair.
These are finally broken in too… They BAKE the skate when you 1st get it. Basically they heat it up and then you stick you foot in it and it molds to your foot.
I used to skate on the ponds in MI as a kid. I remember that being one of the only cool things about living in a state where it’s FREEZING for 8 months of the year
I hope Jr.-ette keeps up the skating
