They Way We View Ourselves
I added a fun little referral plug-in to the journal. I 1st saw this particular plug-in at Pure Mood’s place and thought to myself "wow, I want one of those!" [Her site is much cleaner than mine, I'm thinking I need to do some clean-up work on mine and move things around]. Anyway, if you scroll down to the right of the sidebar you’ll see it. Pretty neato!
I’m getting ready to head to the gym again…and then I’m going to drive to Vegas tonight. I think Vegas will help my toe heal
I know I look rather frumpy in this picture but I guess I am. It’s one of those pictures where I can hear my mother’s voice saying "Robert! sit up straight!" …I know I tend to slouch but I think I’ve figured out why.
You see, It all goes back to School Days and being one of the shortest kids in my class. I didn’t really start growing until my 12th grade year….so I have a shorter person’s mentality if that makes sense. In my head, I still think of myself as the skinny little guy rather than the 6′2 man I’ve become. [How the hell did that happen?]. Perhaps this is why I’m always slouching over?
Playing hockey a few games ago, I remember hearing a guy on the other team say during the game "I’ll cover the big guy" and it dawned on me that he was talking about ME. It just made me stop and think. No complaints…just thoughts here.
Another observation is that when people meet me who have only seen photos or videos of me, they usually say something like "Hey, you’re much taller in person"… and of course that goes the other way around with actors and people you see on TV. I once saw Dustin Hoffman crossing the street and thought "WOW, he’s very short". I’m willing to bet his mother never had to tell him to stand up straight.
Tall, Short…none of that really matters on any level. I guess the main thing is, if you need me to reach and grab something from the high shelf…just ask, I’m your man. I’m good for that. :)
More when I return with my Vegas winnings

When I was younger, I was the tall, skinny kid that was always the last guy standing at dodgeball… do I get a prize for that? Since then I have… um… spread out and present a larger target, so I’m no longer playing pro dodgeball.
you played pro-dodgeball??
Ha yeah, when I first saw you I though you were going to beat me up.
kidding
really? i’m not *THAT* mean looking in person eh?
I’ve never been to Vegas, (except to stop for gas.) I’ve never gambled. I wonder if I DID, think I might have some of that beginners luck??
YES…that’s how they get you…you win in the beginning and then you(meaning ME) keep trying to win more and more..i’m greedy :-=D
i like all the lights and fun of the strip though
I had the opposite problem, I was always the tallest in the class. I hunched over because I felt like a giant. I was really self conscious. I ended up at 5-9 and like being tall now.
BTW I like the photo. Just looks like you’re holding the world. It takes courage to put your photo out there.

@ K
i’m on the treo and for some odd reason it’s not letting me reply to each comment…only comment
yeah girls seemed to grow sooner than boys…i remember in Jr. High and dancing with a gal who must have been 2 feet taller than I was …quite a sight! i’m about a foot taller than her now though.
mainly…sometimes I just forget
Thanks for the kind words about the photo..it’s more of a candid one rather than a studio type.
hug!
oh, to anyone reading this …i’ve seen pictures of K (g rated of course) and she’s a “hottie” ….hope I didn’t embarrass you with that comment
Have a good time in Vegas. Hope it doesn’t rain like it did last time you were there
I was always the shortest kid in the class……I am still waiting to grow to 6′2!
But I think being the shortest is not always so bad it kinda gives you an aggressive/competitive edge
@ Mr. Haddock
*”Hope it doesnÂ’t rain like it did last time you were there”*
so far…no rain but MAN it’s COLD!
I think from now on each time I get a photo taken I should have an object in it to gage my size…like a dollar bill or something
maybe handfuls of bills would be good too.
I know what you mean about aggression. I still think like i’m shorter …i just don’t have the speed on the ice that I want
a dollar bill, huh? what are we gauging the size of? jk Hey while your in vegas go see that cirque show at new york new york. btw I don’t recall you being THAT short. I just remember you being THAT cute ;P
@ Kathy
* btw I donÂ’t recall you being THAT short. I just remember you being THAT cute ;P*
(blush)
but remember you moved away in tje 6th grade when everyone was short….you missed the years when everone grew but me (at least not until later)
I guess I was a late bloomer..
heheheh
i’m still blushing over the cute remark
hug
Will you buy me something pretty with your winnings??
Aww. You mentioned me - I feel special.
I don’t think the photo makes you frumpy… See that girl over there? She’s droolin’ over you…. hehe
@ AKA
“I went to Vegas and all I brought back was this lousy Blog”
hehehe
kidding…sure…but the chances of me actually winning anything there (and not sticking the money right back in the machine) are very slim.
on the way back home now.
@ PM
*Aww. You mentioned me – I feel special.*

you are special though
and besides…you have all the sweet toys over at your place
Me and my friends all think you’re ADORABLE. When are you coming to england ?!
I’d like to think you and your friends have great taste!
kidding…sort of.
I’ve actually never been to the UK but some day i hope to walk barefoot across Abbey Road (broken toe and all)
Funny, I had no idea you were tall. For some reason it seems that like actors, musicians are usually short. So without even thinking about it, I automatically assume the musicians I see on TV or otherwise talk to without seeing, are short.
Cute, talented, sweet AND tall is a dangerous combination in this town. You should be careful.:wink:
i’m not super tall or anything…but I really do hear that *”i thought you’d be shorter”* line all the time.
Of course, when i’m on the ice the skates, it gives me another 3/4 inches so they’re like a hockey players high heels LOL
i need to walked around in ice skates all the time
