Paranoid Blogging
I just popped on to write a little blog…I look over on my little counter and it says 43 people are online right this moment at 5:48pm[PST]. This MUST be a mistake :"People Online: 43" Not that I’m complaining in the least, but that’s a little scary and cool all at the same time.
I’ve been getting a little paranoid when I see things like that and start wondering what foolish thing I might have written to warrant those 43 people all at the same time…perhaps it’s just the time of day? Or maybe i’m getting some airplay somewhere and someone was nice enough to mention the website? That would be GREAT!
The other day, I was linked to another blogger’s page where the guy mentioned me in a negative way by saying:
"Who’s this Bob Gentry fellow, shouldn’t he be at work or something? Every time I’m on BE[blogexsplosion.com] his site pops up, how many hours are you on there pal?!"
I posted a comment saying:
"Sorry if my blog is always popping up on BE…it’s because I pay for the credits. So the answer is less than 5 minutes a day. [There’s a button on BE that says something like "don’t show me this blog again"…feel free to click that if the site comes up and you're annoyed by it]."
This message above is for anyone else who surfs in from BE who does not want to view the site again.
This fella’s post made me smile and yet feel insulted all at once…it was as if he was insinuating that all I do for 24 hours a day is surf and read blogs in order to get my blog read [that's another way how BE works, for those of you not familiar with it]. I’m starting to wonder if my journal is over-exposed? I think I’m getting a backfire here. Who knows.
On the bright side, getting exposure through these types of sites HAVE brought in more positive feedback than negative so I suppose I can handle a little bit of the flack from others. The main thing I was trying to do was get the music out there for people to hear. I pretty much GIVE AWAY music….people can stream CD quality songs from this site but perhaps that message is getting lost. The hope is that, they like what they hear(or read) and decide to pick up a track or two at iTunes or Napster.
Just in the last few months, I’ve been called everything from narcissistic, ego-maniac, gay-homo, annoying, self-loving, etc…the list goes on. You get the idea. It’s not as though it’s an army of people who say this, just the occasional idiot. I wouldn’t mind so much if I were getting a paycheck of someone like Paris Hilton. All that money has a way of deflecting the bullshit but MY W2’s tell a different story(sorry to say).
Perhaps having my real name in my journal and posting photos of myself have something to do with a few of these type of comments. Funny thing about that is, it’s usually coming from someone who is completely hidden(not that there’s anything wrong with that either). Who knows what the answer is…I know I should ignore, rather than confront, but the bottom line is to anyone wanting a war of the words…this is my journal and I’ll write whatever I want, if you don’t like it…GO FUCK YOURSELF.
I could go on and on here but I’ll stop before I embarrass myself more. To anyone who actually enjoys reading this blog…sorry for putting that out there. It was just something I needed to get off my chest.

What a fucking idiot! Doesn’t he realize that he also has to be online at the same time as you so he’s guilty of the same thing? His remark reminds me of a friend of mine who used to cruise Sunset Blvd alot. He would always call me and tell me that he saw another friend cruising Sunset Blvd. Hello? So they’re both saying the same thing about each other. Geez! There are so many stoooopid people out there. Is that the pot calling the kettle black? - or - He who is without sin cast the first stone and all that shit?
I’m quickly losing my patience with humanity.
yeap…that’s pretty much what the guy was saying. There is a button while reading through blogs that says “don’t view again” … People just like to bitch.
I do my share of that too…but this is not the 1st time someone’s pointed me to these type of attacks. It makes me really stop and rethink what I’m writing.
I now make sure not to post too many photos…mainly I’ve just been careful watching what I say more and more.
And of course…what’s happening is…i’m blogging less and less. Aw well.
do you really have bob gentry ring tones? dude, i find that just so f***ing cool, for some reason. hell, i lived 46 years and i never had a ring tone.
seriously, though, bob… it’s your blog. do it YOUR way. and if you do, people will come. people like me who like your music (and wish you’d do more of it), and think you’re an all around pretty cool guy, even if you are from Michigan.
so keep on singin, keep on bloggin’ and know that 99.9% of us are actually interested, believe it or not.

Mostly, i keep the journal for myself to look back on…we all want to be liked though…no one likes to be called names.
I guess it’s better to have people talking about you than not at all…even the bad things. Back to having thick skin.:neutral:

Thanks to BE (in large part) Bob’s stuff is going to be on a kick ass TV show (how’s that Mr. shouldn’t he be at work or something?). On top of that, he gets to talk to a to kick ass chick (me :grin:) associated with the show who digs his music (now, how’s THAT Mr. Thanks for blogging about Bob Gentry cause any PR is good PR?)

I’ve always found that whiners and bitchers are just jealous… if you have any kind of success or notoriety or respect, there are people who wish they were in your shoes and that you were sleeping under a bridge and peeing on the sidewalk… classic ’sour grapes’. Ignore them… but they won’t go away. Even if you barely have a pot to piss in, there’s someone who’ll envy you the pot.

Funny as it seems, I see your blog every time I surf BE, but I don’t mind in the slightest. Indeed, I enjoy reading it and always have done.
Some people are so insecure about themselves that they feel the need to put others down, especially if said person’s blog isn’t getting a lot of hits. At the end of the day, this is YOUR blog, written in your own time and you write what you want. If people don’t want to read your blog, then they can either do as you said and block the blog, OR just click the number to go to the next blog. No skin off your nose :o)

I would have copied his comment and posted it on my blog with a big WANKER sign next to it. He must be on line a lot to know what you are doing on line. My blog circulates sometimes and I’m not even on line. It’s the credits that do it. Normally I don’t have enough credits to assign traffic, however sometimes I get lucky and win a few and I let my blog circulate. If you buy credits or win credits for renting your blog and such then you will have it circulate even more. If this guy is seeing it over and over, it must be because he is on line and not you. That’s sad! You’ll find a lot of people like that. All they do is skulk BE or websites just to see what a person is up to or writing.
Don’t let them get to you.
I personally think he is just jealous that the girlies think you are cute and that you are gonna be more famous then what you are now when you get a contract. Watch out then. Everyone will try and take a bite out of you just to tend to their own insecurities.
Keep being you, don’t be paranoid. Just think of it this way, some are jealous, some think you’re cute, some think you are talented and some just drop by for the first time.. tehe!!
