A Nice Gift and a Blast From My Past
Today I received a very nice gift. It wasn’t money, toys, a PS2 game…not a new Guitar …nothing like that. Rather, it came in the form of an email. Priceless. The gift of nostalgia…it just doesn’t get much better than that.
[Since I probably wont be posting until after the holiday, mark this as my Christmas Post and Happy Holiday to you all!
Peace on Mars ...good will to Aliens]
Back to our story…I woke up …grabbed my coffee and started checking the email like we all do. Well, in today’s In-box was a message from a gal I was very close friends with from the old neighborhood named Kelly. Kelly and I were the hippest Break Dancers on our block.
Where there was a piece on cardboard, you’d usually find us spinning on it doing crazy contortioned moves and flipping our bodies around to the sound of some crazy "Ghetto Blaster" blaring along side us. We were actually PROFESSIONAL BREAK DANCERS(and pretty good at it)…for one Summer, we were actually paid by Wonderland Mall in Michigan to perform in their eating area and we attracted crowds…they even advertised it. It’s all funny when I think back on it now. Bottom line, Kelly and I were good friends.
At some point in our childhood, we would get in trouble doing the silly things that kids did…we all did some wild stuff but Kelly ended up getting caught. I’m not sure of what really happened but at around the age of 15, Kelly was sent away to live with her father out of state and NONE of us ever heard from her again. We knew she was alive because some of us were still in touch with her older brother Chris but…there was never any real contact. Not until TODAY.
I could go on and on with stories from my childhood but let me just say that getting an email from Kelly was a very nice gift…it opened up memories I’d long forgotten about. I wrote back and hope to hear more and catch up on life. Meanwhile, I looked through my old photo album and scanned this silly photo of just some of my childhood friends.

-
Jimmy: Now lives in Florida with his wife and kids…Jimmy used to have these crazy parties that only compared to a Tom Cruise movie like Risky Business(only without the hookers).
-
Chris: For a long time, Chris and I were best of buds…Chris and Kelly are brother and sister and he was part of the Break Dance Fest
-
Katrina: We were evil to Katrina thinking back…She also moved away to Texas at about the age of 16. Katrina was known for practicing black magic(i’m not making this up).
-
Mike: Mike and I would give Katrina hell. Mike was also the 1st bass player in the Detroit’s version of the band Moisture. Mike gets teased for being the most fertile man alive…he could just breath on a gal and she’d end up pregnant.
Mike has 3 very lovely kids. -
Pam: Pam was known for being pretty and yet a bad ass… I once saw Pam beat up 3 older boys down at the train tracks. I secretly used to love to watch her kick these boy’s asses
-
Kelly: Whose email inspired this blog entry. Thanks so much Kelly…I hope you stay in touch! (say, is that a GLASS BOTTLE of Mountain Dew on the table? WILD!)
-
Scotty: Scott was always getting into trouble…I remember him being one of the only 14 year olds on our block to have a Moped[Honda Spree]. Having one of those made him instantly COOL[you have to remember this is before anyone could drive a car legally]. Scotty was stabbed to death about 6 years ago over something senseless. It was very sad.
-
Janine: Janine was the glue to quite a few of these people..not to mention one of my 1st girlfriends
Janine should have been a shrink because everyone usually ended up telling her their problems. We’re still very close friends today…as I am with quite a few of the folks I grew up with.
There’s quite a few friends missing from the photo but this was just one I grabbed and quickly scanned for my "holiday post"
One of the people missing from this photo[My friend Jeff] will be visiting here on the 26th of this month and I’ll be spending his birthday with him on January 3rd.
Well…this is my Holiday Post…and I couldn’t ask for a better gift of having these crazy fun memories. I only hope you all have a great Christmas, Hanukah, and SeXmas.

” Katrina was known for practicing black magic”
well that explains New Orleans.
lol
have a good one, bob!
ya know….when all the Katrina stuff was happening …i couldn’t help but think of my friend with the same name…she must be tired of hearign her name by now

and yes…she had a book of spells….quite interesting.
maybe she could use her powers for good and get me a new jaguar, and don’t you want a motorcycle?
*and don’t you want a motorcycle*
HELL YEAH
but i’ve been a bad boy all year…i doubt it’ll be under my tree
ah well
More, more, more of those pictures from the past!
you like those 1985 shots huh?
i have more but the ones of me are sooooo bad ;)
“i have more but the ones of me are sooooo bad” …oh post some! That’s what makes blogs so interesting. Everyone can relate to seeing old photos of themselves. I’m one of the privileged few who has seen photos of you when you were younger and along with being an absolute hoot, you were still photogenic way back then.
That is a great Xmas gift but I always prefer MONEY! LOTS of money.
yeah…money isn’t half bad too
but this was still nice.
perhaps after the holiday i’ll post some old shots…i have some silly ones too:mrgreen:
:twisted:i have some great pictures:twisted:

It is always a pleasure to read your honesty, nostalgia and great adventures…
You deserve it all…Have at it!

Happy Holiday Buddy!
Holy shit I am so glad I was not in the photo you decided to post…I noticed you weren’t either…hmm…wonder why? For the record, neither Bob or I looked anything like that, we were way cooler.
LOL I was taking the photo
I do have some of us looking all *Mulleted* but I’d rather not post those…and if i did, i’d prolly crop ‘em and give us *Photoshop Haircuts*
…um…and Mike has FOUR kids….haha…thats hilarious, he’s even more fertile than you know!
4? Really? I thought just 3:shock:
You’re thinking about Scott Russo(sp) ..that is Scott Phillips in that photo. He lived on your side of Plymouth Rd(on your block i think)Yeap…Pam B.
Jimmy’s house was the big one on Grayfield Rd….right on the corner there
Sheri emailed me from classmates.com back in 2001 right after she saw me on TV.

PS..we are getting old…wait…i’ve decided to stay the same age from now on
ps…i KNOW you remember Mike…i *think* you dated his friend Conrad(who later became a RODEO BULL RIDER)
hi kathy
ahh the BIG SPOOKY house. A kid lived there? Seriously, maybe he moved in after I moved away.
Only guy from Vandenburg I remember “dating” would have been Steve (forgot his last name) But fifth grade dating, at least back then, only means we sat next to each other at lunch. humm kinda like my marriage!
Come on, Bob, post your third grade picture for us
i hope it wasn’t Steve Pack you dated…otherwise i am starting to feel like the Grim Reaper. (Steve was killed in our 12th grade year of high school)
no, I remember his name now…Steve Wofford or some such spelling.
oh yeah..Steve W was a very nice guy…very quiet guy..even moreso than I was
Merry Xmas - and to all a good night.
You too Val…
be cheery
yes bob i now have four kids. about one year ago i blinked at my wife and she got pregnant. great picture. i look like an idiot. the best part of that picture is we all have the same hair style…even the guy that took the pic…….bob.

4 kids? WOW….for some reason i thought it was Three…My GAWD MAN!

Wow, just stopped in. It funny I had the same thing happen to me, and it took me back and made me google friends to see if I could find anything out about them. And even made me pick up the phone and call a bunch of them.
Great post, goodfriends are definitely hard to find. But even harder to keep in touch with.
Merry Christmas.
i feel lucky that i’m still friends with the people i’ve known since i was 5…we don’t always talk but when we do it’s all “catch up” and quite fun
hope you had a GREAT holiday!
hug!
