Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger refused to block the execution early Tuesday of Stanley Tookie Williams, rejecting the notion that the founder of the murderous Crips gang had atoned for his crimes and found redemption on death row.
I really don’t know too much about the details of the case and I’m a little worried to even comment about it. The way I see it is (whether or not you support the Death Penalty) if you are convicted of the crime with such obvious evidence, writing a bunch of children’s 
books while in prison trying to steer kids away from gangs(which actually glamorized him as a "gang celebrity") should not overturn anything. Besides,… What else does the guy have to do but write in prison anyway? Hell, even "I’m sorry" doesn’t cut it with me…not with this sort of crime.
What sort of message does letting him live send to gang members? What sort of message to the families of the victims? And this BULLSHIT on the news of Riot Threats is just CRAP. You didn’t see riots happening when O.J. got off with just a slap on the wrist when MURDERING 2 people.
What’s even worse is to give an opinion on this and to be called or thought of as a racist…I’m not, I have friends and family of every race, age, sexual orientation and sex. All I know is, if anyone were to brutally murder any friend or family member of mine, death by lethal injection would be WAY TOO KIND.
I was just listening to this “Tookie” event on TV and he admitted that when he killed the 2 Asians that they made a weird gurgling sound and then Tookie laughed for 5 to 6 minutes. Now, does that sound like an innocent person? I don’t care what he has “ostensibly” done to try and improve himself or “ostensibly” helped steer kids clear from gangs. The motherfucker should be sent to Iraq and let the terrorists behead the asshole with a dull butterknife….nice and slow.
Other than that…MERRY CHRISTMAS, Peace on Earth and Good Will toward all men - except murderers!
I just watched on TV…members of gangs explaining how he should not be killed….meanwhile, *THEY* were in gangs and had their faces covered. ..doh!
I never underestimate the power of a Bad Example… all the ‘redemption’ in the world can’t undo what’s been done… by anyone, Williams, Schwarzenneger, Bush, Clinton… anyone.

Even across the country, I’ve been keeping an eye on this one. If they granted him clemency then California’s should have impreached Arnold. Good for Arnold in not letting the “hollywood” elite pressure him. Williams killed 4 people (probably more…no one really knows) but states he is innocent. He started one of the biggest gangs that murders people for any reason they deem okay. I personally think they should give him a slow lethal injection…as small dose say every 5 minutes so he can feel some pain…but then again if he’s not remorseful then he doesn’t have feelings. Okay, I’m going to step off my soapbox before I get you in trouble for letting me vent! So to sum it up….he’s actually getting off easy…I like Val’s idea of sending him to Iraq.

I don’t know why it is but the news has been giving much more coverage to the people who think he should be granted clemency. I was beginning to think I was the only one who thinks this killer should suffer the consequences. I can’t believe my taxes went to keep this asshole alive for so many years. Thank you Arnold.

They’re actually about one notch below Tookie as they have financially destroyed lives while pretending to be honest people. At least Tookie was an admitted killer. I lost a lot of money in Enron stock. I could easily find a vein of an Enron exec with an ice pick and plyers.

I was a criminal investigator for 5 years. During that time I dealt with seriously screwed up people that did HORRIBLE things. Most were just damaged, so to say. A few though were PURE EVIL. I have NO faith in the justice system. Believe me, if someone actually makes it to death row, they earned it. Yes I know there are cases of wrongfully accused people who have been put to death… goes with my whole disbelief in the system… But if not Tookie, who?

It’s VERY hard to put someone to death in the state of CA..even harder to convict (as we can see from the OJ’s Robert Blakes, and MJ’s).
I don’t mean to be so cold-hearted on this issue but the final message to kids wanting to join gangs and kill should learn from Tookie’s example of DEATH…not letting him live and be a best selling children’s book author
I agree with you on this issue…I was watching the news this morning and Mike Farrell (of MASH fame) said that in executing Tookie we were losing an important voice speaking to our children about staying away from gangs.

Do you realize the United States is the last civilized nation in the world that still has the death penalty? What does that tell you? Do you think it makes us “right” and the rest of the world “wrong?” How is killing this man any better than what he’s accused of doing? In fact, aren’t we practicing gang mentality…you kill someone, we kill you in return? How does that make any more sense?
I am not for one second saying that Wilson was a good man, or that he was blameless, but killing someone, whether it is state sponsored or not, is still murder.

I probably vented a bit much yesterday…i was just angry that they were trying to play this guy off as an innocent children’s book writer when in fact he’s a murderer.
11 people have been put to death in the state of CA and 8 of those have been white(so it’s not a race thing that people were claiming on TV).
I think the main argument here is whether or not someone is *for* or *against* the Death Penalty…(as you can see i’m for it). I don’t mean to come across as a heartless person.
Why let your tax dollars keep some idiot alive…specially after those types of crimes.

The people who have had loved ones killed by another and then later forgave their killers…..well…i have no idea how those people do it. I *do* have hatred for killers…Murdering someone is a crime I don’t forgive.

Whatever happened to making the punishment fit the crime? A quick and painles death of execution is far less then someone being slaughtered by a gang banger on the street with no warning or provocation. To lay bleeding to death on the ground, or knifed to death, is FAR harsher then a leathal injection! I also think for full deterent impact, it should be a public execution.

The only message the death penalty sends is that the U.S. is a barbaric nation. Study after study has shown that keeping the death penalty intact is NOT a deterrent to would-be criminals. So, that argument is just not based in fact.
As for your point about it “preventing him from ever killing again,” that is not very reasonable either. First, the man was in his 50’s, not exactly very threatening. Second, while he served his time in prison he never showed ANY propensity for violence towards other inmates. Finally, I didn’t condone releasing him to society, therefore he would never be a risk to the outside world.
As far as not wanting to pay his gym membership, well that is your personal choice. I guess we need to decide as a society if human life is worth the $.03 a year that your taxes pay for keeping an inmate incarcerated.
The interesting thing about this case is that he was tried, convicted, and sentenced for killing four people. However, all people seem to be spewing as an argument is that he started the Cripps and should be punished for being a gangster. Let’s face it, there are thousands of people in jail that are doing life rather than getting the death penalty simply their case was not so high profile.

50 year olds can still kill …we really don’t know if he was violent behind the walls…he was, after all a gang LEADER who could have easily controlled others(not that i’m saying that’s what happened–i don’t know)
Even if he was the perfect inmate…none of that changes the crimes.
I’m pretty sure more than 3 cents a year goes into keeping someone in prison…but i haven’t looked into it. To me?? If this person killed someone i cared about….i wouldn’t even want 1 cent going to it.
Him starting a gang?…that wasn’t his crime….murders were.
It all still comes down to whether or not one believes in the Death Penalty.
I’ve lost friends and a family member in murders…perhaps if you had lost someone you might have a different view?

I imagine that every convicted and condemned murderer currently sitting in prison and uncaught killer hopes that their ‘punishment’ will be decided by ‘humane’ folks with more regard for life than they have. I noticed that Saudi Arabia has one of the lowest murder rates in the world… I wonder what the secret of their success is…?

Hi Val, I agree with you. One time I spoke with a really old hippy who owned a head shop and we were discussing this same issue. (he was a paccifist) I asked him if some one were to walk up to him and threaten to harm him or his family, would he still retain his ideolgy or would he pound the crap out of said assailent in order to protect his family. He said, “I would hope that I could retain my ideology”. At that point I realized that I couldn’t really continue the disscussion. And like you once the victim of such crimes our perspective becomes different.
