Captcha Beast
Yesterday I started getting TONS of Spam Comments on my journal…It’s not as though any of them showed since comments are set to be monitored…but It left me stuck having to read all the crappy Spam and delete it before it actually showed. I looked around for some Anti-Spam programs for Wordpress and came up with a few.
The 1st I downloaded was something called "Spam Karma 2- Reloaded"… That seemed to work pretty good but for some reason it started to over-ride the option 
of "moderation"…it basically took over like RISE OF THE MACHINES from Terminator 3. I started messing with the settings on it more and STILL couldn’t get it to the way I liked…and then I remembered the Juggler telling me about something he installed called "Captcha" ….which works like blogger.com’s anti-spam comment feature. It seems to NOW be working on my journal but there’s 2 submit buttons (not sure why). Anyway…in order to comment you must type in the 5 digit code after everything’s filled out and then click either submit button. Tricky….and even trickier for me to install [I ride the Little Yellow Wordpress Bus]. Hopefully this will solve my Spam troubles…more on this to come.

Let’s see…uh… I’m looking forward to seeing Cinderella "Cell Phone" Man tonight. and I JUST saw the movie preview for the the NEW X-3 Movie….DAMN IT LOOKS GOOD! I think I’m most excited about the new 
characters…and especially curious about Kelsey Grammer as Beast.
A friend sent me a picture with Kelsey in full Beast Gear and it looked pretty sweet.
I’m a little worried that Bryan Singer’s not doing X-3 but I have a feeling it’s still going to be pretty good. Wishful thinking? Maybe.
Oh, i should mention that tonight I’ll be going to THE GYM and working out. It might not show in the photos I post, but I’ve gained some weight. Ever since I quit smoking anything I eat turns right to fat. Playing hockey helps …but not enough. I know much of it has to do with my diet but I’d rather eat the foods I enjoy and try and work it off rather than eat Rabbit food.
I have a pretty addictive personality…perhaps this Gym thing will get under my skin and I’ll actually have 6 pack abs. I guess it beats going back to smoking… I just need to stay busy and keep my mind off that. Let me just say that even after almost 2 years of not smoking, there isn’t a day that i don’t think about it and miss it. I’m not preaching here, but GOD it’s such a powerful drug.
UPDATE! I switched my anti-spam thing to Gatekeeper…so now instead of a number to type in….it asks you a question and there’s only one submit button. [i was getting some "confusion emails" on that]

Hi, I’m the author of the Captcha plugin. I see you’re using v1.9 (2.0 is under way). The problem you tell about the duplicated submit button might be related to your wordpress skin theme, I think
Please, email me if you want me to help you to fix this (basically it should be an html tag in your comment form, I guess. but I’m no sure)

yeah, i had a feeling it had something to do with the Threaded Comments since on both themes i have the same issue…i’ll send you an email…by the way…

BTW, out of scientific curiosity I clicked on the submit button without the code, got the error message, and ended up on a blank page… neither ‘back’ nor ‘reload’ would take me back to the journal page… I was trapped on a blank page… it was like some kind of bloggers’ purgatory… I had to re-enter the journal URL… weird…

chances are they wont…but it stops my spam …or maybe tge upgrade 2.0 will fix that
The gym huh? What a conincidence. I stepped on a scale at Fry’s today and WHAM! 208 lbs! (My ideal weight is about 175) So I thought, “This scale must be broken.” So I stepped on another model and DOUBLE WHAM! 209 lbs. What a fucking porker! Oink! Glad to hear you’re going to the gym. I’m going on a diet IMMEDIATELY! I suggest you get your food intake under control as no amount of exercise will help unless you’re training like Ahhhhhhhnold used to.
i can carry a little bit of the weigth being 6′2 and all but i’d rather not
of course..i’d rather not stop eating Corn Dogs too :):mrgreen:
Hey there again… How much do you consider tons? I get that too and it’s fairly simple to look over in the WP moderation panel. Anyways, I gotta run but stay strong and away from the smoking!
Tons…well…yesterday, i had over 20 messages and ALL were SPAM…20 a day is a bit too much.

i use gatekeeper… it isn’t quite as easy to type as a code as there are questions to answer… which sometimes are fairly tricky, apparently.
i’ll check out your and see….i’m for anything that fits off the spam…so far since adding this, it’s helped kill it

i switched over to the same you use…it gets rid of the 2 submit buttons and seems to work just fine

I quit smoking 4 years ago. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. It’s only really been in the last year that I have stopped thinking about smoking every day.
Coincidently I was at my doctors today and he told me I need to excercise a lot more, so I checked out a gym on my way home. I’ll join in the new year……but before then I’m going to pig out big time. Fat boy porkers club here I come!
yeah…before i knew i was going to quit smoking …i smoked even more(like the food thing). I was up to 2 packs a day and had been smoking for about 20 years!
So what you’re saying is..eventually the feeling of wanting to smoke goes away? So far, i really miss it but i’m not going to start back up.
By the way…the gym is trippy!

Same experience. I only put up my blog for six months now and I got tons of spam comments. I installed a simple image verification system like yours and that stopped the comments. Only my blog is self build php so I have to build my own plugin
I don’t know why these bots aimed at personal blogs. I mean i don’t think they will get any exposure sincere there are a few people reading my blog lol.
I went to your blog…wanted to test out the anti-spam thingie. I dunno how you guys do it…building your own plugins….the coding for Wordpress seems pretty complex to me…i do ok at things like html or Flash…and handful of other programs for wordpress has been a tough learn

Hm.. did you take a look at the html code? my friend used wordpress and he successfully implemented the image verification plugin. i’ll ask him which plugin he used. ah you changed the verification to question :). I tried this before but since I don’t have to approve it… the bot actually got all of the randomly generated variable…and spam still got in.

I just want to try the new blog question. I feel like I’m on “Family Feud” or “Price is Right.” If I get the question right do I win a prize? I see the question is “What color is an orange?” Does everyone get the same question? I think an orange is tangerine in color. Hmmmmm. I actually think it’s a trick question. Most oranges I’ve seen are kind of yellow/red. And is the question asking about the color of the peel or the color of the inside of an orange? Hmmmm. Well here goes….
