More About Yesterday
Well, yesterday was fun!
I arrived at the studio just having done a crash course in the song. Being familiar with a song and knowing it, are two different things…I was just familiar so I brushed up on the lyrics beforehand. Of course, I learned way more than I really needed. Basically it was the easiest paycheck of my life…and pretty damn fun! I was only there an hour or so and just had to sing about 2 lines of the song, which is all they needed.
Got a nice email from Chris afterwards saying:
Hey Bob,
It was good seeing you again. Thanks for coming over on such short notice.
I think your track turned out great…I’ll shoot you an MP3 of the mix tomorrow night. Your vocal sound is just what the track (and our client) was looking for. We ended up using your lead vocal, doubled with a touch of a low harmony done by this other guy. Your voices blend really well in this context.
Thanks again
And so…that was nice. Now let’s see if it gets aired. Either way…I had a ton of fun and felt at home being back in the studio again. It made me start to itch for more recordings. I’m going to see about booking some time at this same studio. More on that later…
This actually came at a good time…I have been in a massive funk for some time that’s really seemed to thicken up more lately and cloud the mind. Usually that sort of thing kicks in when I realize how utterly gullible I’ve been over the last 7 months to buy into the "let’s dangle the carrot over the donkey’s head and see if we can get him to jump"…
Chalk it up to just another lesson learned…but I’m so tired of unwanted lessons. My thought for the day is…people with good intentions mean well, but unless they follow through they’re just a distraction.
Either way…I need to move in ANY direction before I become a statue.

I predict many more ‘good’ things in the next few weeks as the year winds down… and something truly spectacular come the new year… your full moon is moving out of the constellation Leprechaun, so you’ll soon no longer be among ‘the little people’ of this world… you’ll be a ’star’ in your own right.
ah hell…i’d just be happy to do what i love and make a living at it…i guess that might be asking too much

All i can do is try though
boy, you said it about good intentions…. 99% of life is the follow-through. i think the other 1% is pure luck. i’m busier than ever, but i still feel like i’m going nowhere….somedays i wake up and say to myself, “john, do something. ANYTHING.” people at rest tend to stay at rest, and people in motion tend to stay in motion. and all hell breaks loose when two people of equal force run into each other.
i feel like i’ve just typed a whole bunch of words but didn’t say a damn thing. ha! go figure. i’m leaving for florida in the morning—finally. i’ll be hanging out at starbucks and barnes & nobles hotspots so i’ll still be aware of the internets, as Dubya calls ‘em.
i just get pissed at myself for buying into someone’s *good intent* …there are some pretty good salesmen in this world. You would think after so long of having to deal with it, i should be able ot see through it
What an enlightening blog! Lessons learned:
1. Being non-productive can be very depressing.
2. This town is loaded with smoke blowing assholes.
3. Fortunately, this town does have some real and helpful people (like your friend Chris) who make up for the smoke blowing assholes.
4. Nurture your connections but always be very cautious. Very few people can be trusted.
5. When you make it big, remember the people who helped you and for the people who were just a distraction, “There’s nothing wrong with a little MASSIVE REVENGE!”
yeah…I really need to try and stick with the good things and the nice folks who help out and never expect anything in return…there are those people here too.
It’s just hard to know what’s a flower and what’s a weed.
Your #5 seems like *The Count of Monte Cristo*
This is Hollywood. And in Hollywood, a weed is really a flower and a flower is really a weed.
“Count of Monte Cristo?” Try “Death Wish!” You wish death to all those flowers! Think Charles Bronson.
*”I’m your man”*

gatta love that quote from the Count movie
Bob, you hit the nail on the head. Being a musician and computer scientist, I would say what has been said many times before:
The road is paved with good intentions…..
Eic
being a computer scientist i’m guessing you run into less flakes…
There *are* some of the “good guys” here in Hollywood…but man…are they ever hard to find.
you play music too? i’m typing on my cell now but i’ll check out your site when I get back to the laptop.
Thanks much for the comment!
more soon
Glad to see your back on the horse so to speak - doing what you love to do - recording music. My thoughts echo most peoples above. It’s a lot better to be active than non active
it did feel good to be back on a mic …
I must admit this last month i’ve been considering other options and a new direction for my life.
This starving artist stuff is really getting old…. sometimes I wonder if having a small taste of it is worse than nothing at all…
then again…i do tend to over-think everything. Good thing I don’t play chess.
You have to go for it….when you look back one day as an older gentleman…..and wonder…..if only I had…..etc etc
Your move!
You have the quality to make it and I am sure I am not alone in that thought.
Knight to D3….takes Bishop
*Knight to D3*
Gatta watch those Knights…those sneaky jumpers
