Movie Talk
No Spoilers below…just a general impression.
I watched Batman Begins on DVD last night… I’d already seen it in the movie theater and still enjoyed it the 2nd time around. For those of you thinking "oh god, not another Super Hero movie"…it is and it isn’t.
What I liked best about it other than the cast and general feel of the movie was that they took in a great direction and made everything REAL. By REAL, I mean…everything in the movie was explained to where there actually could be a Batman in real life like this.
Most comic movies seem to create powered people by mutation[Batman's just a normal angry guy]…Taking Batman back to square one was a great idea! Well, I don’t want to give away any spoilers for anyone who hasn’t seen this but…I HIGHLY recommend it!
I’ve heard that movie studios are thinking about releasing movies to DVD at the same time they are in the theater. Wonder how that would affect things.
There are things I like about seeing a movie in a theater…like feeling the energy and reaction of the people watching….but for the most part as long as there’s a big screen TV with surround sound and pause button, i like to watch on the couch. Perhaps I’ve had too many experiences having to sit next to people in theaters who are just rude? I guess it all depends on the movie too.

I thought “Batman Begins” was the best Batman movie ever. I liked the fact that it wasn’t a caricature/cartoon film even though the main character did perform feats that were very much cartoon oriented but somehow they were believable. I liked the seriousness of the film. Nicely directed and the look - wow! outstanding! I’ve liked Christian Bale ever since “Empire of the Sun.” He was brilliant and only about 12 years old. I hated the past Batman films because of the silly characters in clown makeup (penguin, joker, etc) along with all the corny dialogue. They seemed to be directed more towards children. The only thing I didn’t like about “Batman Begins” was Katie Holmes. Oh man! What a ditz! She sounded like she inhaled helium before delivering every line. Bad actress and way too young for the part. But then, what do I know. She’s got Tom Cruise jumping all over couches cause he thinks she the greatest thing since….um, uh, hmmmm, maybe I shouldn’t go there.
yeah Christian Bale is the best Batman yet…I sure hope they make a part 2!
Katie Holmes? I just think her and Tom have just been in the public eye way too much is all
I couldn’t agree more with you. Just finished the DVD. Also, saw it at the movies, and at that time was stunned by it.
Definitely Bale’s best role and amazing that he did it after “The Machinist”. Those who hasn’t seen it, well, the metamorphosis is quite unimaginable…
i was amazed at how skinny he was in “The Machinist”… hard to think that he did that just before Batman.
My husband made me go to the theater to see this and I was expecting to hat eit like all the other comic book movies he drags me too, but I thought this movie was REALLY good.
yeah..it’s not anything like the other Batman movies. It was just a good drama with action …nice
I look at it this way. I can rent the movie from Blockbuster for $4.00, giving me two days of watching time where I can pause, rewind and fast forward. OR - I can spend $9.50 on a ticket at the theater, then $20 on a small popcorn and medium soda.
You do the math.
I hear ya..i like thw pause button

I hate seeing in the theater and having to run out because my slushy drink is running through me faster than i’d like
The only effect of releasing movies to theatres and DVD at the same time would be more movie places closing down and the lack of crappy cam versions in the movie warez scene.
yeah…i’m sure theaters would become like the old Drive-Ins here…
i’m told they’re going to serve sushi and beer at theaters to attract folks…i don’t see it working though
I’m not a fan of batman, but I reckon I might just check this movie out after all the good rep it’s getting here. Saw Empire of the sun years ago and thought that was excellant. Very good acting for a kid.
It’s pretty good….it’s done with class and style …not cartoonish in the least.
let me know what you thank if ya see it
I have seen “Empire of the Sun” about 10 times. It is one of my favorite films. Flawless from beginning to end although, I know several people who didn’t like it. Taste is so subjective.
I agree. Batman Begins was a lot different from the usual Comicbook hero movies, and best of all from the earlier Batman movies. I never like them. They were so made up, more like reading a comic book than watching a movie. What i liked about this movie is the attention to details like the way Batman sits on those stairs, so spooky and so much like a real bat. And o’course, Batman’s never taken help from the real bats in the earlier movies, but that’s one of his “weapons” actually. He’s just an angry man, unlike the others who were mutated or exposed to radiation or whatever. This movie took note of that. And it was a real good job.
Part 2? Well, it ended where the first of the earlier series started.. The Joker. So i guess this was actually a prequel to that series, and so the next movie would be part 6!
i’d love to see them do a *serious* Joker.
I think the other Batman movies were made for kids…and this one was more for adults and wiser kids
So are you an adult or wiser kid? you know you shouldn’t have left that door open for me!
do I get to pick ?
if so…i’m a wiser kid
Speaking as a real geek who is a massive fan of the Batman story, yet hated the movies cos I adore the graphic novels, I still haven’t worked up the courage to see this. I think Christian Bale is a very under rated actor, and I think he would be great in this, but still…..
As for them releasing the dvd at the same time as the theatre, I do think it would kill movie theatres. There are only a few movies I like to see in the cinema, the big blockbuster action type ones - everything else, I wanna watch at home in comfort. Mind you, our local cinema is pretty cool - it’s the oldest operating theatre in Queensland (here in Australia) - wooden floor, the old canvas deckchairs etc etc…take your pillow, and in winter a blanket, and you’re good to go!
i’m not sure they would let you take a blanket to theaters here..though they should. The last time I was in the theater the AC was freeeezing.
I haven’t seen that movie yet…but I think I’ll take your recommendation and give it a look-see. I do loves me some Batman. Even Adam and the POW! ZAP! version…I never missed it as a kid.
Serious Joker…isn’t that an oxymoron?
I was wondering if anyone would pick up on the “serious joker” play on words

yeah…i like just about all comic movies and TV shows (didn’t like The Hulk movie though).
This Batman movie is clever though…you’ll see
I wasn’t sure if I was going to buy this DVD or not, but now I think I may thanks to your recommendations.
cool! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
it helps to be a Batman fan already but I think even non-comic fans will still enjoy it….they just might not get *everything* is all
This was by far and away the best Batman movie IMO. Bale was fantastic :).
I agree…i don’t think the movie did that great at the box office…it should have though..i think everyone thought it was going to be like the other Batman movies or something.
Are you there?…
Nice speech. Im curious how it went over….
