Lost in Translation Plugins

Sunday…I haven’t done much of anything today other than fart around online. Later (like in an hour and a 1/2) I’ll be going out with Val for his birthday meal. [Happy Birthday!]

emoticon  I’ve never been a huge fan of my own birthdays but I do OK when it’s someone else adding another candle on the cake. I might have to bring the fire extinguisher tonight…could be dangerous! ;)

Let’s see…what else? Oh, I added these little flags at the bottom right of the journal that should (in theory) translate the page. I guess some things just don’t translate….see…I’ll take text from the last post like:

The other night while playing a game of Tennis Chainsaw Massacre at the public park, there were a couple of people doing this Brazilian type of Martial Arts/Exercise. It was sort of fun to watch ‘em…they were doing it in super slow-motion and in a sort of rocking back and fourth motion.

Translated to Spanish:

La otra noche mientras que juega un juego del tenis Chainsaw Massacre en el parque público, había pares de la gente que hacía este tipo brasileño de Martial Arts/Exercise.  Era clase de diversión para mirar el ‘ em… que ella lo hacía en a cámara lenta estupendo y en una clase de oscilación detrás y de cuarto movimiento.

And then taking that and translating is BACK to English and you get:

The other night whereas a game of tennis Chainsaw Massacre in the public park plays, there were pairs of the people who made east type Brazilian of Martial Arts/Exercise.  It was class of diversion to behind watch the ‘ command post… that she made in wonderful a slow motion and in a class of oscillation and fourth movement.

"It was class of diversion to behind watch the command post"–What the?? LOL

Perhaps having a translator on the page is pointless. Specially if it makes me seem even more illiterate :)

Hardly ‘illiterate’… seriously ‘monoligual’ though… I say keep the translator just for the fun of it… but then I’m in a class of oscillation and fourth movement on the subject. LOL

Thanks Mike ;-) I’ll keep it for sure but it’s just strange how some things just don’t seem to convert.
LOL “I’m in a class of oscillation and fourth movement on the subject”

THAT is funny!!
I’ll keep it ;)

Thanks for the birthday wish. I think I’ll have em put 63 sticks of dynamite on the cake and just wait for it to explode. (suicide cake bomb) I wasn’t supposed to get this old. This was not the plan. My biggest regret is that I won’t be around to see all you young people complain about the aches and pains of reaching your 60s. Fuckers!

sure you will…i complain about aches and pains already ;-)
Happy Birthday though…i’ll try to complain a little extra at dinner :-D

Thanks for the birthday wish and I never could figure out that phrase… “don’t know you from Adam.” Who’s Adam??

I think it has something to do with Adam and Eve…seriously. Like,… “i wouldn’t know you if you were walking around naked in my garden” ok…maybe that’s not what it means but it’s funny ;)

Happy birthday Val! May the day and the many years ahead be the best you have ever known. And as far as explosions are concerned, between Bob ‘farting’ around and your candles - well, if there’s a glow in the west tonight from here in the desert, i’ll know what it is - lol.

hugs,
bj

The translator is fun. I think all translator programs have their little/big faults.

Happy birthday to Val as well.

I always thought ‘farting around’ was an English expression - should put that through the translator! :)

You probably already know this but, to translate your entire website in seconds, you can use this: http://babel.altavista.com/

yeah….that requires having to actually type in a URL…all this plug-in requires in to click in the flag ;-)
this one’s based through google rather than Babel Fish ;)

Well, if you ever a post that isn’t up to snuff, just translate it into a language, then translate it again into another language then back to English, who knows it may be a brilliant piece of work.

Mmm sounds like a good idea.

Thanks Ralph. I LOVE Germany! My favorite memories are Heidelberg and driving along the Rhine river and stopping every so often to explore those great abandoned castles. I miss those days! LA sucks!

Heidelberg is pretty near to where I live, it´s very beautiful old city. I think it´s only natural to be wishing to go to places you can´t be at all the time. I´d love to leave boring Germany to visit LA for a while. Castles suck ;)

I can relate to your opinion on dealing with your own birthday. I am more comfortable being in celebrations of someone else’s birthday. Such difference when you’re an adult compared on how excited you were when you were a kid to add a year to your age!

If only there’s an online translator for Filipino, that would be interesting! Hah!

Nice change in your layout, btw. It’s been a while since my last drop…

I hear ya Rocco! I started hating birthdays when I was in my 30s. However, I did spend my 41st birthday in the Philipines. My first and only time there and it was a GREAT birthday meeting hundreds of relatives I didn’t know I had. They were all in Legaspi.
