Macromedia Studio 8
Wow! I’ve only had a day to mess with the new Studio 8 but I have to say I’m really impressed!

I uploaded some tests to check out, but I think you’ll need to upgrade to the new free Flash Player 8 in order to view anything–otherwise, you might only hear sound…or nothing at all. [It only take a second.]
The video compression in flash is a huge step up than what it was before and much easier to use [for me at least]. Here’s some tests I did:
I like the built-in controls with auto-drop shadows.
Studio 8 comes with Flash 8, Dreamweaver 8, Fireworks 8…and a new program called Flash Paper. I have to admit, at 1st glance this Flash Paper program didn’t even interest me…but it’s pretty sweet too!
Here’s an example…basically…all i did was open the Flash Paper program and Drag and Drop a Word File or PDF file into it…it converts it automatically…and the end result is this:
You can zoom into the page and print right from there…it’s as if they took all the work out of it
It also has a built in word search for Doc’s with quite a bit of text. Lastly…you can highlight the text…pretty sweet if you ask me.
Anyway…there’s still much to learn but I’m totally GEEKED!
[Update: I forgot to say that it also comes with something called Contribute 3--it has it's uses but I still like ftp pro]

Saweeet! That paper thing looks cool. I’ve always wanted an easy “Flash” way to just throw up a document. Can you write some active script to auto-load docs from your server? Like have a file browsing flash app or something, or just have a way for your flash movie to display different docs depending on how users interact with the movie? That’d be cool.
I only just messed with Flash Paper for just a second….but it’s a great little tool….nice and easy! it took 10 seconds.
I’ve only just started looking at Studio 8 and there’s a TON of stuff to learn…mostly in Flash 8 and Dreamweaver 8 but…WOwzers!
It’s Sweetness!
There’s also a plug-in for using blogger’s XML with Flash too…but they had that for MX already
Yes. You are a total geek. But that’s actually a compliment. The very last page of the current issue of Time Magazine is devoted to “The Geek Shall Inherit the Earth.” It explains how the geeks have taken over the world and in the words of Huey Lewis, “It’s finally hip to be square.” At all my high school reunions, the geeks were the successful ones and also the best looking. The cool jocks were fat and bald. However, there’s always the exception. I was a geek and I’m now fat and bald. Go figure!
I never played sports IN school…but now that i’m older, i’m finding a new love for them…..i suppose some of the time it’s good to NOT be glaring at the computer screen
The Studio 8 is DAMN SWEET though!
Nice Bob. So…when’s the wedding?
with this program, I thee wed
I already E-Loped
That was BAD! *shudders*
you set me up for it..i took the bait
Smallville tonight was FANTASTIC!
Judging by the number of comments you’ve received, I think most people don’t give a shit about you finding some “sweet” technology. I’m currently in the midst of trying to explain to a client about posting pictures, resolution, DPI, compression and this seems to be way above his head. I think most people don’t know or even care about what dpi or resolution a pic should be for posting. It took me several years to absorb all this info cause I found it quite boring. Sometimes I would get a photo emailed to me and it would be MONSTROUS! All you could see was the person’s eye! I had to shrink it down to see the entire photo. And that’s because they couldn’t grasp resolution. But now, that I’m posting stuff on the internet and have my own website, I had to learn this stuff. And I’m still learning. Don’t post a photo in RGB mode. It must be sRGB. I only learned this a few months ago. Interesting eh? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
yeah…posts about “super studio 8″ aren’t really bringing in comments….as nice as comments are to get, it’s not the purpose of keeping the journal
All i can do is write about what’s important to me
by the way… things like resolution, DPI, compression …those are candy to the ear for me
Thanks SO MUCH for finally allowing comments on your blog; I’ll definitely be coming back more often now.
thanks for stopping in
so far, it’s worked out really well.
sorry not to have them sooner…i was waiting for blogger.com to come out with their “comment moderation” and finally switched over to wordpress
will be sure to pop on you blog and give a “hello” when I get back on my laptop (typing from the cell phone now)
more soon
Macromedia has some great programs, too bad they are sooooo expensive!
yeah…the program is a a little costly…but i do freelance webwork for others and it paid for itself long ago
[waves hello!]
