“Missed It By That Much”

I just heard that Don Adams who played Maxwell Smart, Agent 86, on the TV series "Get Smart", has just died. He was also the voice of the cartoon character Inspector Gadget.
I just remember the show because I’ve always been a sucker for shows and sitcoms from the 1960’s. I truly believe I was born in the wrong generation. Besides, anyone who answers their secret shoe-phone has my attention! :-)
Another of my favorite 1960’s TV shows was "The Fugitive" staring David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble. This show used to be on late at night in the metro Detroit area… and being the night owl that I am, the show hooked me. I used to get lost in it.
The 1993 Movie version of "The Fugitive" with Harrison Ford was great[we all remember that CGI train wreck], but there was something about that old TV show I loved. Maybe it was that each week Kimble was someone else on the run surrounded by a completely new cast(with the exception of Lieutenant Gerard ). Kimble could basically be anyone he wanted… and to me, there’s something neat about the idea of wondering the country, hitching rides and stopping along old Route 66 to see the 2 headed snakes….and of course, fix everyone’s problems along the way. These days, if you try to do that, you might end up a Cold Case File.
They tried to bring a new version of the TV series back in 2000, but it was the chemistry of David Janssen and Barry Morse that really made that old show… The 2000 version didn’t stand a chance. Well…all this has nothing to do with the Death of Don Adams, but it just reminded me of how much I loved TV shows from the 60’s.
In other Shameful Plugging News: Today I get bragging rights. My website FINALLY is in the top 100k sites at Alexa.com. It took 2 years but the site JUST snuck down to 99,325. I still have quite a ways to go before I reach same traffic rank as britneyspears.com but I’ll get there ![]()
Traffic Rank for britneyspears.com: 10,121
Top 3 Sites according to Alexa.com
1. Yahoo! www.yahoo.com 2. Microsoft Network (MSN)
3.
Alexa’s a fun site to poke around on though I’m not sure how accurate it is. In any event, I’m kicking some web traffic ass considering I don’t have my own TV Show, Movie, or Major Record Company behind me…..yet. Thanks to people come to the site regularly and sorry to those who are here not under their own free will

CONGRATULATIONS! For making it into the TOP 100,000 web sites in THE WORLD! You SOOO RAWK, dude! You make me PROUD to be a commentator on your site…! And to have a part in boosting your traffic numbers…
Bummer about Don Adams, though… I always enjoyed Get Smart! For the zany, spoofy nature of the writing. The Fugitive was good, too… it was kinda like Zen and the Art of Crossing State Lines to Avoid Prosecution. Shows from that era were still ground-breaking… My Favorite Martian, The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone, The Partridge Family… wowzer!
Thanks Mike!
The only thing they have wrong at Alexa is “Sites Linking In”..i know that’s off for sure…but i’ll gladly take the “under 100K” whooo hoo!
thanks god for reruns,…otherwise i would have been stuck having to watch TV from the 80’s and 90’s! EEEK!
So…. you’re saying that you watch TV-LAND channel a lot? GOOD CHOICE… you can still catch re-runs of I Dream of Jeannie with Barbara Eden and Larry Hageman…

I don’t think you would’ve liked the 60s - except for the music. You always complain about old movies not moving along fast enough. After watching Ben-Hur, which was once one of my favorite movies I have to agree with you on the style of movies made pre 70s or even 80s. As spectaular as they were, in watching them today, the scenes just drag on forever with too much character development. I saw Ben-Hur about 5 times when it first came out and thought it was the most magnificant film ever made. After watching it again the other night for the first time in about 40 years, I just couldn’t believe how gawdawful it was! All that “emoting” and 30 second reaction shots with hand to the forehead. Dreadful! Even the very first “Star Wars” Mark Hamil whined his way through the entire movie and I never noticed it the first time. But if you did live in the 60s, you probably wouldn’t have noticed it either. Just think - today’s great films will someday be tomorrow’s campy movies.
movies were better back then cuz everyone was on Acid
the special FX seemed way better than any “CG-I Thing I’m Tripping out”
No one was on acid…. just lots of coke and qualuudes.
Good News/Bad News”:
The good news is I think you should be in the top 100,000 sites.
The bad news: Amazon owns Alexa and it is just a data collecton agency to sort out buying habits. I hope you did not put their spyware bar in your computer.
You probably have a legit’ raking with Alexa…Now THAT is cool (a 60’s word I used WAY too much), but most people buy proxy hits to fake up their rank.
Forget Alexa and start looking on Google for “great singer and human being on the rise” in Google.
I used to have their little tracker on my front page before BE and i took it down sinc ei could never seem to get under 100k…it was always like 130k…i checked the yesterday and there it was. I have an old CD for sale with amazon…but not the new one..not yet at least
congrats on being in the top 100,000. i’m sure i’m in the top 1000000000000000 of websites.
actually, i just checked http://www.coloradohurricane.com@ alexa and i am at 3,842,249
the good news is…you have a #…some sites don’t…not sure what it means but i like checking their site out to see the sites rising and falling….BE and having comments really helped bring up my count. Will see where it goes from here…i’m just chasing Ms. Spears
I just checked out my site on Alexa. I am at 253,819. I guess that’s not too bad considering I don’t get that many calls from people who stumble across my website. I get more calls from refferals who in turn check out my site. But the past few months I have seen a red arrow pointing down. Does this mean less people are going to my website??
best thing is prolly to just check out your Cpanel
first gilligan — now Max…….. sheesh, I finally feel that I may be aging. Hey I didn’t know Alexa still existed.
good post
Thansk for the comment Shane! yeah…it would seem like all the 1960’s folks are leaving us…next’ll be Jan Brady
Bob, what am I gonna do with you? You can´t post such links. The “LA Ice Skating Massacre” was really, really splendid compared to the sad, sad tunes playing on davidjanssen.net. Way to start a day :/ Now I got some depression to shake off.
I am currently 1,024,290 at alexa.com without the #, which is cool for being around only four months. I never used alexa.com before. It says there my page loads too slowly (Avg. 4,6 sec). Should I worry about this?
heheheheh…yeah…the Janssen site is the music from the Fugitive..very sad and dramatic
say…you’re UP 1,252,718!
Not bad at all…in fact, pretty good. I dunno about the load time…i’m not even sure if Alexa is right on or not..but i like the site and i still want to be a low #
I don´t really see how alexa gathers its data since they don´t have any code on the pages they index, which is the standard way any traffic counter works.
And if they only count the people using their toolbar I don´t think it´s that representative.
yeah…i’m clueless how it works but I still like to surf it
I used to wake up at 6 AM on Saturday mornings to watch Get Smart. Sad day.
they used to air the rerun after I got home from school as a teen …that abd Lost in Space

(waves “hello”)
Get Smart! was a great tv show.
Hi Jane

yeah…i used to love that show too.
i’m shocked that they haven’t remade it into a movie…but i’m also glad too…If you’ve seen The Avengers….you know what i’m talking about
I can only really remember ‘The Fugitive’ (perhaps the others weren’t shown in England. I really liked the Avengers (and the New Advengers)….the remake film was crap!
yeah…the remake of the Avengers (even with the great Connery) was so crappy…i wanted to like it as much as the TV show though.
Did you guys get to watch a show called “The Prisoner” there? THAT would be a good remake
“The Prisoner†was one of my favourite shows. It was fanatistic. If a remake was done well it would be great, but more often than not the remakes……..don’t make it
I liked the Fugitive remake …if The Prisoner was done correctly it could be killllller! I think those floating balls could be udated a little…i so loved the concept of that show though…most folks don’t even know of that show….you have great taste is shows!
congratulations on the 100k. looks like you are now 46,323.
i am ranked 126k, which is a lot higher than i would have expected after a month.
your rank gets boosted when you are visited by people using either the A9 or Alexa toolbars, so i probably just gained you a few points!
maybe i should install the tool bar and go send a visit back at ya!

[i already did the visit]
say…126 is pretty cool!…
so basically the alexa ranking is only based on people who have this bar installed? how strange…i wonder if there a site that does real site rankings or is this as close as we’ll get :-\
as far as free rankings are concerned, this is as good as it gets. data can only be obtained by observing user activity. that requires either tracking via an application like a toolbar or tracking by the internet service provider.
alexa will probably get more accurate over time, as A9 gets a broader reach. they might also do a deal with google to use their toolbar data (A9/alexa and Google are already working together on search)
yeah…i think Alexa is as good as it gets for traffic rank…it might not be 100 percent dead on…but it’s pretty close….that’d be great if they got in bed with google too

I was sorry to hear about Don Adams. In addition to Get Smart, he was also the voice of Tennessee Tuxedo. He will be missed. BTW I loved David Jansen too.
ah..i didn’t know he did Tennessee Tuxedo as well…
Yeah..i was huge Fugitive fan of the 60’s show. One of my all-time fav’s!
Are you there?…
All the darkness in the world cannot put out the smallest candle. The darker it is, more brightly shines the candle. instead of complaining about the dark search for your candle. Believe me; It exists…
Are you there?…
I would love to hear more about this ……
Are you there?…
Do you mind to post some more information about this ?…
