It was Grrrrrreeeat

Filed under: Uncategorized — Bob Gentry @ 3:40 pm

Last night’s dinner party? I’m not sure where to begin …but how about I start out by saying that I had a blast. Jay’s place is a 3 story killer hideaway about a block or so from the ocean.

There’s one thing you should know about most dinner parties here in Hollywood…there is usually NO DINNER at all(rather little snack things and finger-food)! And so, when someone usually invites me to a "dinner party", I usually make sure I eat a little something before I go…In last night’s case, I should have shown up having not eaten for weeks. There was actually food there…and GOOD food at that! But having already have eaten…I still managed to make a dent in my plate.

When I arrived, I walked in feeling a little nervous…but only because it’s not often I go to parties where I don’t know anyone but the host. BUT with that being said….when you move to a different part of the country, you tend to get a little more brave–otherwise, you never meet any new people. And so with some liquid courage cleverly disguised in a martini glass that was handed to me the moment of arrival, the edge was taken off quickly.

It also helped that everyone was very nice and not the typical "Hollywood-ites" (I’m not sure how to explain what a Hollywood-ite is). I also liked the fact that it was a smaller gathering of about 12 and you could actually meet people and enjoy conversation[I'm not a fan of going out to clubs and parties where the music is so loud you need to learn sign language to converse]. I suppose the best way i can describe the party is…it reminded me of a get-together along the lines of how the friends I grew up with would have. I had a grrrrrrreat time.

The Box of DeathAfter dinner, chat and drinks, Jay pulled out a box of Frosted Flakes and carefully removed the bag of cereal inside. No, no, no..this was not dessert, but rather a "party game"…

The game rules? [keep in mind we were all pretty tipsy by this point in the night so what might sound easy was anything but].

The empty box was placed in the center of the floor and everyone took turns bending down to pick it up…with their TEETH. Hands, elbows and knees were not allowed to touch the ground. Once picked up, about and inch was ripped off the top, making it more difficult for the next person to grab.

This was not an easy game…balance was the key but a couple of the girls had the upper hand. For one, women are usually more limber than men…and two, THEY PRACTICED YOGA regularly :-)

The Box of Death

Eventually the box was ripped down to a mere flat piece of cardboard and in order to pick it up off the ground, it had to be SUCKED up. People were falling over and laughing and I learned just how much fun an empty cereal box can be. emoticon

Anyway….this was just a small part of the night but I really enjoyed myself and was grateful for the invite. Oh…I ended up placing 3rd in the box game but there was no beating the girls. The 2 gals who tied 1st place had to mud wrestle to claim the number 1 spot…just kidding…though it might have made for a more interesting finale :)

One thing I know, I will never look at a box of Frosted Flakes the same way again :)

The friends YOU grew up with were a LOT more interesting than the ones I grew up with… apparently… Of course, it was MY generation that invented KIDDIE POOL NUDE JELL-O TWISTER… LOL

my childhood friends skipped Twister and went right for “orgy candy land” :-)

Glad you had a great time. I played that game last year and nearly did myself an injury!…..it’s great fun though :)
Funnily enough the women won our game as well!

“orgy candy land”? I never thought it had a name, I thought that was just how all parties ended…I was so naive back then….

I was going to say “shoots and ladders” but it didn’t have the same ring to it ;)

I’m amazed more of us didn’t get injured during those “games”…a full sized bed just wasn’t designed to hold all of those people (everyone reading this is going to think I’m joking…I should post the polaroids…). ;)

Actually…i DO have some photos from Chicago with Carrie, Shannon, Chris and a handful of others all sleeping in that same hotel room. You know which time i speak? :) I’d post the photo but i’m trying to keep the blog PG14 :)

Sounds like an interesting game, it’s strange how things such as cardboard boxes can create so much fun and laughter, and cheap at the price too!

I’m not one for parties really, plus living in a new country has it’s downfalls - the language for one *sigh*

I listened to some of your songs today on your jukebox. Very nice indeed :-) I had to go to download some ,”You’ve changed” is my favourite at the moment.

Thanks for the kind words Dom!
always good to hear when someone says they like a song :)

“You’ve Changed” was always a fun one to play live. I don’t want to ruin the song by saying too much of what it’s about but I wrote it about myself after moving away and old friends saying I had somehow changed…i guess I did …i just hope it wasn’t for the worse ;-)
thanks for the listen and comment!
night for now
Bob
