A MUST LISTEN :)

Filed under: Uncategorized — Bob Gentry @ 5:37 pm

Today I received an email from the Pod Safe directory saying what pod stations are playing some of the tracks i uploaded… and of those, my most favorite is The Downs FM (the radio station of The Downs CE Primary School). http://www.downsfm.com/

Looking at the site it looks as though of couple of their DJ’s were on BBC television. Way to go guys and gals at The Downs FM :)

BlizzardI’m thinking back to when i was in Grade School and Jr. High…I think I brought in a copy of OZZY’s Blizzard of OZ into class and played it on Show and Tell day :) The teacher was not amused. :)

I’m just happy to know that the kids podcasting have played Upside Down on their very 1st show(i swear I had nothing to do with this). I’m just wondering what they think about the lyrics "I was able to hide every bruise on my body till now" …and "it’s suicide, to stay here…etc.."

I repeat..The Downs FM is my new favorite Podcast! Kids in the UK are the hippest kids ya know.

Well…just a little news to report today. I received an email about this record contract and it’s all still moving ahead…it’s just taking a little bit of time is all. I can’t help but get excited and anxious though.

More to report as soon as I know :)

They sound like a bunch of Munchkins. (probably the same height too) It’s funny how they bump the mic and the audio levels are all over the place. It just gives it a more realistic non-scripted feel that the kids are really doing everything themselves. I think it’s great what they’re doing and that your music has reached halfway around the world and into the hearts of some really cool kids. I love English accents and on little kids it sounds even more - what’s the word….enchanting? charming? cute? I am really sick of hearing “y’all, nuke-culer, etc” especially coming from duh president of duh u-nah-ted staaates.

Thanks Graham…
I never would have imagined i’ve captured the ears of the “under 16″ crowd but THAT is COOL :)
my stuff’s never been rated R to start but there are a few lines that are questionable ;-)

Thanks for the comment!

What´s a Show and Tell day?

About the kids and your lyrics. I guess they have seen and heard worse - I mean after all they listen to a podcast over the internet, the ultimate and complete collection of depravity.

Plus with lyrics about hiding bruises and suicide you´ll surely gather up a huge Goth fan base ;)

“show and tell” must just be an American school thing…usually grade school…on Mondays or after a long vacation…kids would bring something in to class…Show it to everyone and Tell the story behind it :)
it would get quite interesting ;-)

Glad things are monimg ahead. I can only relate it to pacing the floor (For weeks!!) waiting for a publisher’s acceptance letter…

Most of my colleagues here are from the U.K. …Much younger, hipper and hungover than me…

Show and Tell? A Viet Vet’ friend of mine got called into the principals office when his daughter taught the class to roll a joint…She is a lawyer now…

Just stopping in…

There’s also an R&B song called “show and tell”…everytime i hear that i think of that song…not sure if many know it though.

yeah…I need to quote Tom Petty on his song “The waiting is the hardest part” but i suppose good things are worth waiting for–or so the saying goes ;)
thanks for stopping in Lonnie!

It must have been a Redford thing bringing in heavy metal for grade school show and tell; I remember bringing in the LP of KISS, LOVE GUN when I was like 9 (4th grade)and my dad wrote my last name across the label of the record so no one would steal it! Growing up white trash rocked!

Yea, when lick it up came out we were in 7th grade, I remember seeing it for the first time in the basement of your house, you had the cassette….and I was trying to figure out which one was which (really only who Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons were, the other two guys didn’t matter at that point).

Vinnie Vincent (guitar) and Eric Carr (drums; deceased). I am a huge lame-ass for knowing that.

Hi all,

I’m the teacher who runs The Downs FM here in the UK. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for your positive comments about our show. I’m just starting a new set of shows with a new group of children, so they’re all learning podcast skills very quickly. We’ll be making new shows very soon, so keep listening for more of Bob’s music!

Hi Mark and thanks!
I think it’s FANTASTIC what you guys are doing there. Our school (back in the day) had a Radio Speech and Broadcasting class ..but this was in High School. You guys are way ahead of the game ;)
tell the kids “Thanks” from me…i’ve added your link to my Side Bar and hope it brings in more listeners for you all
Thanks again!

Podcasting skills? Wow, schools are really keeping up with the times! This blog really took me back to the past as I used to spend nearly every summer holiday up to the age of 14, about 15 minutes from Downs as my mum’s side of the family is from that area. Isn’t it a small world. I’d love to observe your reactions Bob if/when you visit London/England. I still get a culture shock when I pop back and feel like a giant for a day living in toy town (coz things in LA are actually bigger) – I’m not tripping either. Ruf
