Goodbye My Boy :(

Filed under: Uncategorized — Bob Gentry @ 11:59 am

As far as “bad days” go in my life, this one ranks pretty fucking high.

Boris was diagnosed with something called Addison’s Disease about 3 years ago and it’s been downhill ever since. And so …Monthly, not to mention costly, injections of steroids and other medications has been part of his diet.

On a monthly basis he’d go through these fits of not eating, shakes, throwing up, falling over….Pretty much imagine the flu and times that by 100 and that’s what he was dealing with. The shots and drugs usually pumped him back into a state of doggie-normalness but lately he’d been needing shots more frequently. Rather than once a month…It was now once every 14 days.

This last time, he had his shots and it had ZERO effect on him. Today I carried him into the vets feeling as though I was an executioner and he was the dog on Death Row. The Vet took us in a back room and set Boris up for a final injection. At 6pm today, Boris went to sleep very peacefully and I SOBBED like a baby.

I know it was for the best and it was selfish of me to keep him alive this long. I wish I had something more to say.

To Boris, I say goodbye and you are already GREATLY missed. :(
